Hello

I am new here so I just wanted to introduce myself

My daughter was diagnosed with bp 1 ago after several years of therapy, meds and lots of stress. (she was diagnosed with ADD and then depression previously) The day she was diagnosed was a day of mixed emotions for both of us. On one hand it was like a blow to the gut (even though I had prepared myself for it after having done some research on depression and bp, in addition to her great aunt on her fathers side having been bp) On the other hand there was a sense of relief... may sound strange but.. finally an answer that made sense of all the problems we had been dealing with for years. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel.. may sound strange but better to know what your dealing with than blindly feeling your way through a maze. We still struggle with finding the right meds and therapy, docs, but I am hoping the support here can help too.

It hasn't been easy but I wouldn't trade her for anything. She has taught me many things I may never have learned. She has made me more compassionate and accepting. She has made me laugh and cry more than anyone else ever has and continues to remind me of what is really important in this world. I thank God she is here.

"It may not always be easy, but it is always worth it!"

Seeking,
Welcome to the boards!

There was an article in Time Magazine about a year or so ago, which talked about how kids are being misdiagnosed with ADHD/ADD, when they are actually suffering from bipolar illness. I am glad that your daughter has the proper diagnosis and I hope that you find a good drug cocktail, which will enhance her life.
