daughter bp, still working on the right meds. dr just increased her depokote to 1250 and she takes zoloft. seraquil to sleep. She's still up all night and sleeps late in the day. dr said to take seraquil at dinner time so she will fall asleep earlier. she hasn't been doing this because she is affraid she will fall alsleep too early. she has been taking it around 9 at night but she is still up until 4am. she also complains that she is more anxious on the zoloft than she was when she took effexor (dr changed cause she said effexor may increase manic phase) I read on the boards that some people take melatonin to sleep, could she try this while she is taking seraquil? It's getting to the point where I think I need a sleeping aid!

Hi, I don't know anything about melatonin but what has worked for me is my doc raised my depakote to 2000mg, neurontin to1200mg, aterax to 50mg, seraquel to 200mg and ambien to 20mg but this is only for more severe cases of insomnia. I was unable to sleep for days, the longest time I went for without any sleep was close to six days. Now I get about 4-5 hours of sleep a night, I also had to change some my routines, I don't let myself sleep late in the morning, I wake up early in the morning and I get more exercise also I don't take naps anymore. I hope this helps alittle.

She might be having trouble sleeping due to the Zoloft. Before I had been properly diagnosed with bipolar illness, my family physician was treating me for depression. He put me on a number of SSRI drugs, one being Zoloft. The SSRI medications caused my manic episodes to be more common as well as shorter cycles in between that and depression.
I have heard that taking melatonin over an extended period of time is not a good thing, as you run the risk of your body stopping production of natural melatonin.
Good luck!
