I dunno, I don't usually post on this board but then I didn't realise it was here. I guess its been 2 years now since I slept properly though it hardly seems that long. I am 14 and since my parents announced they were getting a divorce 2 years ago and all the fights started I just stopped sleeping. At first I was too scared. I thought if I slept and there was a bad fight then someone might end up in hospital or being taken away by the police or somehting (which I know it sounds stupid but hey) but gradually its just been because I can't. Its been a year since both my parents lived in the same house. I live with my dad and we do fight a bit I guess. But thats not why I don't sleeep. I physically can't. I know I have issues etc but I've tried a lot of stuff. Sleeping masks, lights, no lights, 'peaceful' music, adjusting my body clock by going to bed earlier etc. Nothing works. I just start thinking about everything so I can't get to sleep until I'm literally exhausted to the point I just sorta collapse into sleeping.

but I need to start sleeping in a regular pattern because on school nights I normally get 3 hours at the most though I have tried going to bed at 9 pm I can never get to sleep until at least 3 am and then I have to be up at 6. Is this because I have some kind of sleep disorder or is it just ebcause of the 'issues' I have?

Dunno if anyone can help I just wondered because I get so bored all the time not being able to sleep.

Love Emily x x x

You just described a classic case of insomnia. You may not realize it, but there is something bothering you or stressing you out. Or it could be that you're just stressing about insomnia causing more insomnia. Laying in bed, awake, getting frustrated because you're still awake..thinking "I have school tomorrow!" It's all relevent. You just have to find a way to deal with whatever you're thinking about all the time. Maybe try reading before bed..it allows you to escape and put your mind on something other than daily life. You may also benefit from something like Ambien for a week or so.
