I'm not one to jump to any conclusions or anything but this one is making me a little curious. I have a mole on my right arm and it has been there for longer than I can remember. Its about a half a centimeter in diameter so its not really big but just recently it started growing a little white bump in it or it may have only looked white becuase of the glare from light. The other day i just gently squeezed it and some clear, pus like fluid came from it. It scabbed over by the next day and it looked a little irritated and hurt a little. When I hold it in some good light it looks like it has a bluish tint to it and the mole has always been a light brown/burghandy color. The skin around it is a little red too, i guess from the irritation, i was wondering what some of you thought about it, if it sounds like anything serious. Thanks in advance. :)

Anytime a mole changes in appearance it should be checked out to be on the safe side. I would go to a dermatologist.

I would call a dermatologist. Do not put it off. I had a mole that changed and it came positive for malignant melanoma stage 2. I was very lucky. When you call tell them the mole has had some changes. It may or may not be anything serious but be better safe than sorry.

lisa1991, When I read your post, I noticed that you have basal cell and melanoma. Are you more likely to get melanoma if you have basal cell? Also, how long after the bc was the melamoma found? This is my biggest fear that I will get melanoma. Are there any statistics about the odds? I know that if you catch the melanoma early, it is curable, but it adds a more serious dimension to the problem. Hope you or someone else will respond. Thanks, balleteach

They found the basal cell in september of 2003 and the melanoma in november 2003. The basal was just little spots that did not heal up. The melanoma was a previous mole that changed when I was pregnant with my second child. I did not know I thought it was just the hormones doing weird things to my body. That mole had changed 2 years earlier so I was really lucky. I go back the 22 of June to have another basal cell cut out. My biggest fear was that I would get melanoma too. I am going to be 31 next month so I young to be getting this cancer. The dr said that my melanoma was 99 % cured. I go every three months to get skin checks. Good luck and do not forget to call that doctor.

Lisa, did you read my post about the little black spot on my nose?
You had basil cell? how serious is that? i don't know much about it by my drs. mentioned it when he saw my "black spot"....He said it is problaby nothing but he wants it removed just in case...I take such good care of my skin, yearly checkups and I am always careful in the sun.. How common is BC? And should i be overly concerned.....He is removing it in July.......thanks. bride527

Basel cell is becoming more common with younger people. My basel cell was there 2 years before I went to the derm. I did not know what it was. My spots looked nothing alike. I am having another one removed in 3 weeks. I noticed it in January of this year. Basel cell is usually not life threatning. It grows very slowly and very rarely spreads. The dr told me if I was going to have skin cancer basel cell was the kind to have. I would not worry most likely it is nothing serious. How big is your black spot? My basel cells were red, white with little bumps, then white with a little red center. Hope everything goes ok with you.

My spot is very tiny but he said it has a pearly appearance.....I have only had it a couple of months...Again he didn't seem concerned but said if it comes back positive he will have to remove more. Is that what they do?...BTW, I am not that young!!! LOL
thanks ....bride527

bride527, If it's a basal cell they will have you come back in and take a little more tissue around the area to make sure the borders are clear. If this happens ask for a plastic surgeon to do the work. I've had 3 removed within the last 3 years and I am going back in this summer to have 2 more removed. One is a reacurrance which can be pretty common. You will have good results after the area heals and some time passes. The most important thing is to FIND IT EARLY!!! I'll be 60yrs. in Aug. and feel lucky, with all the sun exposure, that bc didn't happen sooner. My generation had no clue about the dangers of the sun. For us, the tanner the better. I nag my 31yr. old daughter constantly about checking her skin and we are really careful with my grandaughter. Keep posting . balleteach

I know exactly what you mean about the ol days of tanning......I am 52 and i was always at the beach. But i have to say the last 10 years, i have really taken good care of my skin. I go for my yearly checks w/ my dermatologist and have never had anything removed, until now..Thanks for the reassuring words, I am sure it will be fine either way....Like you said they did find it early, if it is BC.....and it is a very tiny spot..thanks........bride517
