Hi there,

I had a filling done 6 days ago. The dentist said it was a small cavity and quickly put in a composite filling. Its been painfull since.. not sensitive.. it feels more like the pain is coming from the inside of the tooth. i.e drinking hot/cold drinks is no problem. The pain is a throbbing pain that comes and goes. It comes for a few minutes and is really sore, but then goes, and comes back at random times. Can someone advise if this is normal or should i revisit my dentist.

Thanks in advance,
Alan

Usually any pain after fillings (which is common) whether it comes from the tooth, gums or the anaesthesia shot usually subsides within the same day or at most 1-2 days. This type of pain is usually mild.

In your case it sounds like the tooth inner pulp tissue may have become inflamed. Sometimes the pulp heals by itself over time, sometimes it deteriorates and requires a root canal treatment.

I suggest you see your dentist if this pain does not improve or goes away completely in the next couple of days.
