Sponsor dfwgoodguy 05-24-2004, 09:56 PM just wondering what a decent amount of carbs to eat daily is acceptable for losing weight??? guess no ones gonna reply so i will. Just go by you daily % i guess, i think its 65g's. Go lower if you want, lack of carbs will just be lack of energy. So just go for the carbs (low amount, and not bad carbs) when your gonna be active (working out, after cardio, etc.) Thats my insight anyways. Shane S 05-24-2004, 10:28 PM Depends on how many calories you're able to have (that's a much more important factor). There's no reason to go super low on carbs. I'd suggest 150g at a minimum. jtu91952 05-30-2004, 03:00 PM just wondering what a decent amount of carbs to eat daily is acceptable for losing weight??? i suggest you do a goggle search on BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and it will give you a calculator of carbs, protien and fat. Someone suggested this to me, i tried it and it worked. I now plan all meals on my bmr and i've lost weight. Good luck modert 05-31-2004, 09:20 AM Here is my recommended formula: After you calculate how many calories you should eat (use a BMR calculator and factor in your activity levels) you simply need to do some math. I recommend 50% of total calories in carbs, 25% protein, and 25% fat. Some people have better luck with 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat. You will need to play with this a little to see what satsifies you the best and what keep you going throughout the day without hunger or decreased energy. Once you have your percentages, simply convert them to grams... 1 carb gram = 4 calories, 1 protein gram = 4 calories, and 1 fat gram = 9 calories. Example: If you are going to eat 2000 calories per day and you decide to eat a ratio of 50/25/25 it might go like this: 1000 carb calories = 250 carb grams 500 protein calories = 125 protein grams 500 fat calories = 55 fat grams Next you need to divide this equally across all your meals. I recommend 5 meals per day. On this plan that would be 50 carb grams + 25 protein grams + 11 fat grams per meal. Remember this is just based on 2000 calories per day - you really need to calculate your own caloric needs... just do a goodle search on BMR calculator. Also remember that not all carbs are alike. Avoid processed white flour products, processed sugars, and "fake carbs" (sugar alchohols and fermentable carbs found in many "low net-carb" foods). Focus on high fiber carbs like whole grains, veggies, fruit, etc. |
