Hello all,

I have recently been diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lower back (I have not had an MRI, my physical therapist only told me this is what I have). I have been doing therapy for about 1 month now with no progress. I have pain in my left leg from my buttock down to my foot. I cannot even take a full step forward with my left leg because of the pain. My question....is it ok to see a chiropracter for this type of injury? My physical therapist told me not to see one because with a bulging disc they can make it worse, but I have read elsewhere that chiropractics on the lower back are fine. I have been in pain now for about 2 1/2 months and I just want it to get better. Please post your opinions/reccomendations on my injury....I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!! :)

Hi There, First let me tell you that the best place to get the answer to your question is on the Back Pain Board. I cant believe that someone dx you in the first place with a bulginging disc without an MRI!!!! I have bulging disc's in my Thoracic and Lumbar spine. Because of the pain i consulted with a NS back in January and again this month, he says that he doesnt want to operate that they are not bad enough yet.He also did not recommend any type of therapy. Again, my best advice to you would be to go to the Back Pain Board and seek answers to your questions there. Hurdy

You need to see an orthopedic surgeon or a primary care and get an MRI and a good dx. Not from a therapist. And for pete's sake stay away from a quack-o-practicer, at least until you know what the problem is. X-ray's will not show a herniated disc so I fail to see how a therapist could know for sure what it is.
