I just want to know if anybody feels this also. All I know is that August is a long time away, this is when I will be having my ACDCF. i am hoping that I can wait this long. The pain at times get so severe that I am having troubles coping with it. I know that my sleep habits have deminished severly. I can't seem to find any comfortable positions , so I end up taking more pain meds. Any help I could use.

Hi there,
I had terrible pain before my surgery in the back of my neck and I couldn't get comfortable to sleep. I went and bought (without doctors orders) a soft cervical collar and it was incredible! It reduced my pain by about 80% during the day. You can go to any medical supply store. I didn't start sleeping well until I started taking Tylenol PM. I think when you toss and turn you also grip with the very muscles that are hurting you. If you can knock yourself out and get a good nights sleep I think you will feel better overall. Good luck waiting. The wait was excruciating for me too.

I wish I had a solution for you, I went through the "not able to sleep" stages before surgery too for about 2 months and I am a month out from surgery now and still not comfortable enough to sleep. I am more comfortable in the recliner than in the bed so you might try that, and you might try enough of a prop up on pillows to get your head elevated. I wish you luck! Get rest when you can, even if it is 15 min mid day!

I Have Tried Propping Myself Up With Pillow, I Tried The Pillow That Is Round To Put Under The Neck/legs, I Have Tried No Pillows, I Am Unsure What Next. I Don't Have A Recliner Only Couches And Those Don't Work. I Have Even Tried More Medication At Night, But That Only Seems To Get Me A Few Hours Of Sleep And Then I Am Wide Awake. I Have Till August 12 To Go Thru This. The Weather Doesn't Seem To Help Either. I Hope Some Thing Happens To Where I Can Get More That A Few Hours......work Is Also Sometimes A Bother With Working At The Computer All Day........oh Well I Guess That I Will Have To Just Be Carefull With Everything And Take One Day At A Time. It Just Sucks The Pain That Is Endured During The Waiting Time.
The Way I Look At It, Even Though Aug 12 Is 74 Days Away I Am Sire It Will Go Semi Quick. This Month Did.

I know exactly how you are feeling! For me the pain was sooooo excruciating and with the docs not ordering any tests and misdiagnosing me there were times i just wanted to die so that i didnt have to suffer anymore. The only time i felt the warmth you are talking about was when the pain was so excruciating in the back of my neck, left back shoulder blade area, shoulder and down my left arm was when i would take a Percocet. About 10 minutes later i would feel warmth and it would start in my neck and then work its way down, as the warmth was moving down the pain was dulling with it. It was really incredible for me considering the pain i was in. It didnt take all the pain away but it helped alot. My NS recommends for sleeping Benadryl 25 to 50 mgs. He says it can be taken safely. Also, about a comfortable position to sleep....... during that time for me, there is no such thing as a comfortable position. It didnt matter what i did, the pain just never let up. The pain was so bad for me that i was having alot of spells where i would get real hot nauseas and start to pass out. It was horrible!!!! I really wish you luck and i hope you get some relief soon. I Think At Times The Burning On The Back Of The Neck Is What Is Letting Me Know When The Real Bad Pain Is Starting. This Is Also Associated With My Stupid Migraines. This Definately Doesn't Help My Other Problems. As Far As The Sleeping Aides I Will Try That Hurdy. I Try To Gather All Information From These Boards Hoping That Someone Else Might Have Ideas In Their Postings. I Have To Think Positive And Keep Praying That In The End It Will Get Better. I Guess The Old Addage No Pain No Gain Fits The Description Here.

Hey Chet I agree with Hurdy about the benadryl to try for sleep-if you look at any of the OTC meds for sleep they all contain diphenhydramine which is benadryl..for a lot of people this will work.as far as rx sleep meds you could ask your doc about ambien or sonata if the benadryl doesnt work..or your doc could try restoril which would help with the sleep and also help curb any muscle spasms during the night,etc...hope this helps and you start to feel
better..
Chris
better..
