Hey guys, just need some reassurance because I'm crazy  I was on Celexa 10mg for about six months, it was great but I was getting used to it. I switched to Lexapro 10mg today, took my first pill. Anyone have any thoughts about whether it'll make me anxious, irritable, or depressed like celexa did when I first started?

Just the opposite. I take Lexapro 20 for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. MUCH less anxious, MUCH less irritable and MUCH MUCH less depressed :)

I just started taking lexapro yesterday - what were your side effects when you first started? Also, what is the "average" dosage for lexapro? My doctor started me on 10mg but I wasn't sure if she'd gradually increase my dosage.

Thanks for the responses. I think a general dose fo lexapro is 10. I took my first pill yesterday. I did feel naseous for the rest of the day after I took it but that could be from a lot of things. I always keep in mind that I could easily "think" I'm having side effects, considering I take it for GAD and OCD, we like to "think" a lot of things.
Alwayz Stressed, is this your first experience with medicine? If so, that could be a factor in side effects.

Actually, I've taken Wellbutrin, Paxil & Zoloft. I can't remember what my side effects were after taking them.

I've always heard bad things about wellbuterin. Thankfully, I've heard a lot of good things about lexapro!

Greetings from Gustav,
I am no expert in this but from learning about meds and depression since March of this year I would say that........................for LEXAPRO the starting dose, as well as the most common for most users, would seem to be 10mg. 20mg or higher (yikes, there are a few of those) seems to be an exception not a rule.
Also, LEXAPRO should, I emphasize SHOULD, take care of the symptoms of depression and anxiety you list. It just should not be a problem when starting this med. Given a week to several for the med to 'kick in' all these and more mental issues should be addressed.
Just a little history so you know where I am coming from. I have been on LEXAPRO for a little over 6 weeks. It is my first anti-depressant for lifelong, chronic, major depression and mild OCD. I am 47 and resisted and denied treatment/therapy/meds for over 30 years. I was just 'how I was.' With some help, love, and encouragement from my wonderful wife I sought help for this for the first time in my life. I have responded extremely well to the LEXAPRO and therapy. My life is changed for the better. It is like a dark cloud has been lifted from my mind. Peace all.

Thanks Gustav, I too resisted the idea of Meds, although I welcomed therapy. Finally, I realized the two together are live saving. I'm basically a worrier and obsessor. Anyways, I'm on my third dose of Lexapro. So far so good. I remember when I first tried Zoloft, by the second day, I had a major panic attack. So, I'm always skeptical trying new meds.

I'm on my 4th dose & I was wondering if you've had any side effects so far?

Not yet. I'm on my fourth as well. I thought I was naseous the first day, but otherwise, doing okay. I think I said before, I was on Celexa 10mg, so Lexapro 10 is like Celexa 20. So I feel like I'm already in a better state of mind, but I don't know if it's psychological or from the med of both. How's about yourself, how are you doing with the Lexapro?

Greetings from Gustav,
I started on this on April 13th. It was 10mg. I had side affects after 8 hours. I took my first pill at 5:30 P.M. and woke up at 1:30 A.M. with sweats, jaw clenched. Over the days neither got very bad though and resolved with time. Now they are gone. Sexual dysfunctions started the first week too. That one has never really gone away. It is about the same after 6 weeks as the first week. Some delay and loss of libido. I can live with these to have my life changed for the better. My wife is on CELEXA 40mg. and has been for 4 years so she suffers from the same stuff.
10 days ago I was bumped up to 20mg. and this did not result in any side affects or a return of the jaw clenching or sweats. Like I said elsewhere I feel like a poster child for this stuff.
This stuff works great.

first few days I took Lexapro, I was wound up tighter than hell, but that went away, I liek Lexapro. I don't take a high enough dose kill alot of my OCD, but I'll tell ya one thing, it does help with anxiety/depression.
