I have tried almost everything and nothing seems to be working that good. Im trying everything in my power to avoid taking medication. Can someone recommend something that has worked for them.

Hi there
The only suggestion I have is exercise...It releases endophins which make us happy. Why are you so afraid of the meds?..I was totaly reluctant to take them at first.I'm so glad I did now...would it be all that bad..to feel normal again?..Sometimes we just have to.Don't be so afraid..they really arn't that bad ;)

The side effects. Usually the side effects are worse the the anxiety and stress. Can you recommend a medication that is working for you.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is what has helped me the most. Although, I don't believe I would have been able to do the therapy, unless I was medicated.

Do a google search for CBT or cognitive behavioral therapy and you will find some very good sites.

Good luck!

yes CBT would help you alot...I plan on going to that as recomened by my therapist. As for the meds..Like I said I was totally afraid to take them before.
I heard about lots of people having little side effect from Celexa(Citalopram).
So I tried it...It worked great for me..The worst side effect was a little bit of queeziness after I took the pill..and going to the bathroom alot. But I had those with the anxiety alone too. They all subsided..and soon I felt like me again.I also had no sexual side effects from it.I took Paxil once but hated it...maybe give Celexa a try...the worst I heard about it was it just didn't work at all for some people.Did wonders for me...maybe give it a try.
Also B vitamins and Magnesium help alot. Our bodies use up extra b vitamins when we are stressed..and magnesium is needed for healthy nerves muscles and heart.Magnesium also helps get rid of the shaking/Jitters.
Hope that helps...let us know what you decide to do.
We all understand how horrible it is to feel this way.
Hang in there
;)

The best thing for me to de-stress is to go outside. I will go out and feel the sun on my face, hear the birds chirping, see the blue sky and the wind.... It makes me feel so much better! Also, I'll go to a park occasionally and just sit and do nothing. That always makes me feel so relaxed.

FYI- Lexapro is a newer version of Celexa which can cause less side effects. Basically, there are two versions of the molecule that are mirror images of each other, and usually only one actually works. The difference between Lexapro and Celexa is that they removed the molecule that doesn't do any work, so it is more pure or something and less likely to cause side effects. I haven't had any side effects from Lexapro, although I hear that it is like Paxil (and probably other medications) in that you have to wean yourself off of it slowly to avoid withdrawal effects. The Lexapro has definitely helped with my anxiety, though.

What magnesium are you using that doesn't give you diarrhea? Also, how many milligrams and at what time of the day do you take it?

Hi I was taking reg magnesium suppliment...but yes It gave me diarea..but so does the anxiety.Magnesium Citrate..is a better form..and easier for the body to absorb. My doctor said you can take as much as you want of mag citrate..with no side effects from it.It is in a powder capsule form..so it can also be mixed with drinks if you have trouble with the size of the pill.
