I here some of you out there have been thourgh this....need to talk! I have had 2 cervical fusions and a partial discectomy but my understanding is that this will be a very hard surgery with a longer rehab and fusion time.
has anyone had this?
How are you doing now?
thanks for any info.

Do a search of this site, there a few people and you can read up on them and get some idea of what to expect.

I had this surgery on 01/29/03. I'm doing quite well. I have some low back pain still but it is just from the surgery itself. As a matter of fact, I just had follow-up x-rays yesterday and was told all looks good. I had a lot of leg pain in both legs before surgery and that is all gone. (I should back up and say that I had bilateral spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis with disc bulge and severe nerve impingement).
As for the surgery and what to expect, it is a pretty major surgery. I won't lie and tell you it is easy because it isn't. When I woke up in the recovery room, I thought I'd been hit by a Mack truck! LOL You will have a lot of help in the hospital (or at least you should) from therapists showing you how to move, walk, get in and out of bed, etc. It will hurt to move but once you do start moving, you won't feel as stiff.
I was back to work as a transcriptionist in 3 weeks, very part-time only since my job involves sitting at the computer for long periods of time. I had to take rests often. I was back to my usual work hours in about 4-5 weeks then but I am self-employed so I am able to adjust my hours so it may take longer for someone whose hours aren't as flexible.
Whatever questions you have, ask away! I would be more than happy to answer them for you! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

AMK34,
Actually only been on here a few weeks. Just on here 24/7 it seems like as I don't seem to be getting any work done or rest. LSPINE is one that had it done and I think BionicSurfer may be another.
Those are the ones that can give you some detail of recent surgeries.
Good luck.
edit--->go to bionicsurfers post below, has the success story of posterior/anterior
