today i found that something's up w/my teeth--i think the enamel or something came off/is coming off my front teeth due to acid from b/p'ing--my front teeth are really smooth and there's some patches of what i think is enamel still remaining over them. if i stop b/p'ing immediately will this prob get worse???????? i don't know what to do since i have a dentist's apt coming up and they're sure to notice and i'm very scared as to what might happen if my parents find out. please help me anyone who can; i'm very upset. :(

From what I know, it's the acids from your stomach that you purge sometimest hat cause the enamel to wear off. If you stop b/ping right this second, im guessing the problem wont get better (at least in time for your appt). BUT if you keep b/ping, the problem will only get worse. It's your choice..:)

Hi rain -
Yes, the Dentist will notice, BUT, I had the same problem many years ago but for a completely different reason. For MANY years I had used a VERY abrasive toothpaste which was supposed to keep the teeth white. Well, I started noticing that the fronts of my teeth were becoming very sensitive to hot and cold, especially cold. (It'd been about 3 years since I'd seen a Deantist because I didn't have dental ins.) I looked in the mirror, really close, then I could see that I had areas that were more dull, next to shinier areas. When I finally saw the Deantist he said that the combination of using too hard of a toothbrush, plus an abrasive toothpaste, I had worn off the enamel in areas in my teeth. I had to have what I call "resurfacing" of these teeth with a compound that matches the teeth and then they are sort of "buffed", and they look very natural. I THINK they're called composites?? They're similar to veneers, just not nearly as expensive. If you are bothered by hot and cold it's because the worn areas are getting too close to the nerve. [EDITED] Hope this helps!
