I am in the process of switching to a new BCP. I took my last pill yesterday from my old pack and was told to stay off for 7 days and then begin my new pills. My question is: If I am still bleeding at the end of the 7 days should I still start taking the new pills? Or, should I wait until the bleeding has completely stopped before starting the new pills? I have heard mixed reviews on this and I just want to make sure I'm doing all I can possibly do to avoid any breakthrough bleeding down the road. If anybody has gone thru this your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! Im switiching my BCP in the next week or so. I was told by my doc to start it on the Sunday i get it my period, if you get it on Sunday, take it that day. I was told not to wait for 7 days cuz it may cause excess bleeding. And remember from switching from one BCP to another, the first few months are sometimes bad for some people, meaning you may get extra cramps and spotting. I would call your doctor to make sure, he may want your body to detox for 7 days tho. Good luck.

I believe you are supposed to start your pill on the Sunday following the day of your period, regardless of whether your period is over or not. That's what I've always done....
