Ok.... My last period was over a month ago and lasted for 3 (yes) :eek:3 WEEKS:eek:. I called my midwife/gyn and told her what was going on. She had me start on the pill (I have an IUD but needed to go on the pill to regulate my cycle, my wedding is in 40 days and then there's the hm) since I hadn't gotten a chance to because my period hadn't stopped. I went on the pill, the period stopped, and exaclt a month later I got my period. I've had a heavy period for over a week, with many many clots which I think :confused:are "leftovers" from the last one that got cut off short thanks to the pill. The problem isn't the mess (although I hate it with a passion) I've been thru 20 tampons, the extra super absorbency, in a little over 24 hours, which is ALOT more than normal. I'm changing them almost every 1-2 hours. The BIG problem is the :mad:PAIN:mad: It's been horrible, I have barely been able to take care of my 11 month old for the last few days. I had some Percocet from when I had some back problems a few months ago, so I've had to take that for the pain, but I only have 3 pills left and I'm worried because the pain is literally incapacitating. It feels like when I was in labor, and I have a hard time doing anything but crying, sleeping, or just sitting. I can sit and do stuff but dishes and cooking? forget it. changing a diaper is like :blob_fireHELL:blob_fire Has anyone been thru this? aside from calling my md tomorrow (its too late today to do it) what should I do?

Selene -

I would go look up your side effects of your pill on its website and see what can be potentially dangerous. It is better to be safe than sorry. I've not heard of pain that intense associated with a pill. I just started Yasmin about a month ago, and had a shortened period as well, but I am in no way experiencing any pain as severe as you are describing.

Yasmine is what I am on, not for the birth control but to regulate my period (since I have the IUD) I'm worried that I somehow got pregnant (my fiancee likes to joke that he has super sperm, I was on the shot before and got pregnant with our daughter) and that I miscarried it because I am still on the pill. I am going to call my midwife again tomorrow and see if I can go in pronto, this is really not fun. The percocet I took an hour ago is working, but I hate the side effects (nausea and light headedness) yuk

I know a LOT of people that have gotten pregnant on birth control, so that is a likely possibility.

I hope it wasn't a miscarriage, I really don't want to go to the hospital or anything, especially with my wedding coming up. I know this sounds bad, but this is the worst time for this to happen!

Your heavy bleeding and the bad cramps sound a lot like side effects of the IUD to me. How long have you had the IUD for? Have you had any heavy bleeding and/or pain on it before? If not, maybe the pill doesn't agree with it somehow.

Maybe you could do a google search on IUD side effects while waiting for your midwife/gyn appointment and see if you find something useful there.

All the best! :)

I've had no problems with the IUD at all, and I had a 3 week period BEFORE I was on the pill, so I don't think that's it. But I'm going to call my doctor again today and see if she can figure out what's going on

I don't want to scare you, but have you talked to your doctor about this? I bled for a month straight. I am 26 and at 25 years of age I was diagnosed with stage 3c uterine cancer. Everything thing you wrote, described me to a T. I would bleed, then wouldn't bleed, then I would bleed like a stuck hog...with a large amount of clots. And it would be painful and horrible cramps. I was also on the pill which, are supposed to help prevent cancer of the uterus. Please get this checked out... I really don't mean to scare you, but you never can be TOO SURE.
