hi! wendsday i discovered a lump about the size of a pea located around 3 cm under my chin or around the so called submandibular area and i got into my GP the next day and she check it out. she didnt look too concerned about it and she said it could be just a swollen lymph node (which i doubt coz i know how a swollen lymph node feels). she didnt ordered any blood work or any ct scan or x-ray or any kind of lab work at all. she just arranged another appointed for me to see a doctor who will take a sample of the lump for biopsy. now i feel like we are skipping something coz we dont even know yet what this really is or if this is something to be removed or what. im thinking about seing a private ENT doctor. do you have any thoughts or suggestions? thanks

Hi
I discovered a pea size node on lower right side of my neck last Nov. At the time, I had a very bad head cold. I still had it in Janaury so went to a surgeon. I figured, cut to the chase as my doctor would most likely recommend seeing a specialist. The surgeon called it a reactive node but ordered a chest xray which came back fine. I had blood work iin April through a wellness program in my workplace and all counts were in the normal range.
Mine is pea size, movable and I try not to touch it. As I have no other symptoms, I'm not in panic mode. However, on my next visit to the doctor, I will point it out but it hasn't changed since last year and it just may be part of me! I understand nodes are suppose to feel pea size. But, I would go ahead and have the tests done.
3 cm is indeed quite an enlarged lymph node. Normal nodes are supposed to be <1 cm. But that doesn't really mean it's serious or anything, it can be a reactive node or perhaps not even a node.
Do you have any other symptoms? (e.g. fever, night sweats) How does the node feel? Does it seem to grow further?
I would recommend you see another doc (ENT specialist is a good idea) if the node (in case that's what it is) doesn't seem to decrease in size or especially if it continues to enlarge.
Good luck.

Hello YSCO! no, my lump is only about 1 cm or like a pea size. the 3 cm was the approximate distance from the tip of my chin down to the site of the lump. i dont know if this is just a swollen lymph node coz this has seem to appear suddenly. and about 2 days before i found this i had an outbreak of cold sore/fever blister caused my herpes simplex virus just right above my lips which i still have now. but i know how a swollen lymph node feels. when i have one they usually are a bit warm, tender and a bit painful when pressed but this doenst feel same way. but i dont have any sort of symptoms like sweating, itching or anything like that. in fact i feel great, except that im worrying about this. oh well, i hope it disappears and if not them im off to doctors office in 10 days. but its really difficult not to worry.
Thanks

Hi,
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I read your message the wrong way!
Please disregard my previous message, 1 cm nodes are nothing to worry about if they don't further increase in size.
hope this helps.

Angel, I would definatley have the node checked out. I was diagnosed with NHL in January and have compleated my Chemo with success. I also had a swollen node under my chin. For a long time. I never thought anything of it. I also had a node behind my ear and right at the hairline of my neck. These nodes were there a while before the ones in my armpit and groin became enlarged. It may be nothing, but it doesnt hurt to get it checked out. I wish I had done something when I noticed the first swollen gland. Good luck and God bless.

HI Audra  my reply is probably a little late but yes i did have my doctor check it and she refered me to a surgeon for a biopsy but i cancelled that appointment coz the lymph node has started to disappear. i had an infection near by but i just didnt thought about it causing the lymph node to react coz i had this infection before and this lymph node didnt swell, except now. my infection got totally cleared up 3 weeks ago and the node is almost gone now:)thanks

Audra,
How big was your lymph node under your chin when you first discovered it? Did it increase in size rapidly or not? Where did you discover the next nodes? I am just curious because I have one under my chin that I noticed about a month ago. I went to the doctor and am going back tomorrow after trying a round of antibiotics. It has not gone down at all. I also have had some unexplained fevers over the last month. Any info you could give me would be appreciated! Thanks
