My question to everyone is...I have a friend who has migraines and said she can get medications cheaper and without a prescription from Canada. Tylenol 3 works well for her and she said she can get it from Canada without a prescription.
I have told her she can't...she needs a prescription for that.
Am I right? She has suffered from migraines for about 5 years.
I welcome your thoughts.

Canada's controlled substances laws are different than that of the US, this is also the case for many other countries. Laws are very strict here in the states compared to other areas.
Codiene can be bought over the counter in Canada but it is only 8mg, not sure how much is in #3, they do track the amount you buy (residents). I read that the US is the only country that you have to have a prescription for codiene.
Prescriptions in general are cheaper in Canada than in the US. There was a big problem some years ago when a law was passed in the US that you can not take a prescription to Canada to be filled, mostly it was because the Manufacturers were losing money. Folks in Michigan were taking a boat over to Canada to spend the day while filling their medications. From what my own physician told me not long ago is that a doctor in Canada must write the prescription.

ACTUALLY,
Codeine availablility without a prescription differs from state to state. Back in PA, years ago I could get terpenhydrate with codeine (cough syrup) or paregoric simply by signing "the book."
Then all of a sudden no more. I always assumed the same in NJ but was pleasantly surprised when I chatted with a pharmacist at Duane Reade Drugs (NY/NY chain)...he said, yep, just sign the book (for a codeine cough syrup).
Unfortunately he couldn't find the book so I can't say for sure...maybe he was mistaken.
As I recall, the formulation cough syrup we were talking about was a generic ...tussin with 10 mg. codeine per tsp.
(Tylenol #3 tablets contains 30 mg. codeine phosphate)

From what my own physician told me not long ago is that a doctor in Canada must write the prescription.
I don't think that is the case currently. With all the hullabaloo over getting scripts filled via the internet from Canada, I can't imagine that to be the case, unless they have a Dr. on staff to re-prescribe the chemicals when the order is placed...

You can buy as much T1's as you want OTC in Canada and you don't have to provide any information. T1's, howver only have 8mg of codeine. Right now I have a prescription for T2's which have 15mg codeine. I'm pretty sure that T3's have 30mg.

Canadachik,
My girlfriend is going to visit an old high school classmate in Michigan and wants to get some of the T1's you are talking about. Where can she buy it? A drug store? grocery store? or what?
She thought she'd cross over into Windsor? at least I think that is where she said, I could be wrong about the name.
Thanks for your help

She can go into any pharmacy and ask for tylanol with codeine. They keep it behind the counter but all you have to do is ask and they give it to you no questions asked. I usually just go into walmart to buy mine. I'm pretty sure that windsor has a walmart but any pharmacy will do. I think its like $7.00 for 100 tablets. Hope that helps! :D
