hi all,

i just got the report from my son's VEEG report and the neuro didnt explain any of it to me while we were in pittsburgh..(see "well tomorrow is the day for results") post. i dont know what any of it means or understand anything so i thougth i would try here for some help till we see his pediatrician on the 16th. ill try and sum it up without missing anything.

"the patient was awake for an adequate prior of time during the tracing. the posterior backround rhythem with the patient awake and eyes closed was a moderate voltage of 70 uv, 9Hz activity that was reactive to eye opening. during the tracing he became drowsy with backround slowing. he entered sleep stages I and II sleep."

" no interhemispheric voltage or frequency asymmetries were noted. eilepiform discharges were noted as #1. generalized 3-4Hz spike waves activated by sleep. #2. C3, C4 rare sharp waves in sleep."

here is the summery of it all,

"this was an abnormal tracing for age and state due to #1. generalized spike/wave, activated by sleep. #2. C3, C4 rare sharp waves in sleep. focal epileptiform discharges indicate focal sites of cerebral hyperexcitability which can be associated with siezures of partial mechanism. generalized epiletiform discharges indicate sites of generalized cerebral hyperexcitability which can be associated with siezures of generalized mechanisms"

i would really appreciate any help on this what so ever. thanks ahead of time for the help if any.

OK, I will try a mom guess. (NO medical training just read a lot)

Looks like this is saying there is a strong chance of generalized and partial seizures. The abnormal things seemed to occur only in sleep. The Sharp waves seem to be showing the focal area. I THINK the c3 C4 electrodes are the ones on top of the head. (I have to go check on this, though)

Why did the neuro not explain this better? Will your Pede be able to explain it? Ours would not except for reading what the report says..) Can you have the Pede call the neuro for a clearer explanation of what it means in real language?

hi kayakmom,

i have no idea why she didnt explain it to me. just read it off the report. his pediatrician will be able to put it in lamens terms for me, becasue her son has this also. the siezures i mean. so she has been through it all already and knows from going thru it with her son. thats why i think she knew what she was looking at when she ordered all the teast way back in november. plus she is very close with gage's old neuro from her son seeing her as well. kind of like having an inside man in all this. thanks for the little bit of nifo. every bit helps.

Jennifer, this is great that your pede is so close to it all. (Well, great for you, I am sorry for her, though!)

Good that you have her support through all of this....best wishes for clearer answers....Ginny
