I am reading all about how ceramic plates on flat irons help protect the hair. However, today I asked my hair stylist, who happens to use the Solano Sapphire Flat Iron (which does not have ceramic plates), if ceramic plates protect hair better than the plates of the Solano Sapphire iron. His reply was that "heat is heat" and that a non-ceramic flat iron will not damage hair more than a ceramic flat iron. This hair stylist has a very upscale salon and appears to be knowledgable about hair.
Well, I don't know what to believe now!

Hi. i like the ceramic flat iron better. i have used metal plates but the ceramic is the bomb. You really do not need high heat and it makes your hair really straight and silky. the straightness holds better as well!!! I also have the curling irons as well.

I agree that what he said is incorrect. I used a non-ceramic flat iron sporadically (2 times a week or so) for several months, and I could FEEL the damamge in my hair when I washed it. I bought a ceramic one and this never happens now even if I use it everyday. Yay ceramic!
