Nutshell

I am excessively tired ALL the time. I usually go to bed around 9 or 10 and get up at 6:30. I sometimes even go to bed around 6. The problem is I stay totally exhausted. To the point my entire body aches I am so tired. I have a 14 1/2 month old so I can't go to bed early every night. I have been tired like this for as long as I can remember. On weekends I take afternoon naps of 3 to 4 hrs long. I feel better after those naps usually. I have had my thyroid checked and they say it is normal. Does this happen to anyone? Does anyone know what I can do about it?? I would appreciate any help.

Well, Nutshell, Don't allow yourself to feel alone in this world of yours. I am the same way... always tired no matter how much sleep I get. A friend of mine recommended daily vitamins. I have to say that they did manage to push my bedtime back by an hour and keep me more energized during the day. However, if someone can offer sound advice... it would prove helpful.

The best advice I can offer is to see your doctor. There are a lot of questions that should be asked to determine what the cause may be. Some are:
Are you overweight?
Do you have a large neck diameter?
Do you snore?
Do you wake up gasping, coughing, or choking?
How many times do you wake?
Do you have the feeling of restless legs, or a crawling, tingling sensation?
Do you dream?
How long does it take to fall asleep?
Do you have a family member with sleep problems?
etc.
Keep in mind, some doctors don't know a lot about sleep. I know from dealing with them and their patients, as well as my own doctor - he asked "what is rem?" i was shocked! if i wasn't in the field of sleep i probably would never have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, because i never would have asked my doctor about doing a sleep study, and he never would have asked me. anyways, sorry for rambling, hope i helped.

 I can totally sympathize! I have started taking Jet Alert pills nearly every day just to function at work. I started to worry that I wouldn't be able to make it to work without falling asleep and having an accident.
I had a sleep study about 3 1/2 years ago and was diagnosed with RLS. I was given a script for Sinemet but didn't really notice that it helped.
I recently finally found a specialist that was on my insurance and had another sleep study. I have now also been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea along with RLS and PLMD. I then had another sleep study with CPAP.
I am on my second week with the CPAP machine. I really hate using it, but I am desparate! I was put on Ultram with the CPAP, but it seemed to make me wake more rather than less.
Today I was given a sample of Mirapex. I was searching for info on it and that's how I found this board. My father takes this med for Parkinson's, but I wanted info related to RLS.
There is a lot of good info here and I am sure to try some of the suggestions like the tonic water. What can it hurt?
I am also diabetic (type 2) and taking meds for that plus I am taking Lexapro for depression (which I think is caused by lack of sleep). I have heard that Lexapro can make RLS worse. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?
I'm sorry this is so long, but I am anxious to get this under control so that I can start functioning like a real human being. My kids think that all I do is sleep!
Thanks for listening!

One good soure for RLS and PLMD is www.rlshelp.org. Even a physician that will answer your e-mails! They give a list of prescriptions that can be used to help. There are many of them, which is good news/bad news, because you may have to work your way down them (which I am doing) before you find what works best for you.
