View Full Version : Hair dye Myths?

Hello. My mum has always said things to make me too afraid to dye my hair... things like it will make you go grey earlier, etc.

I have almost black hair, but I like to dye it black as it seems a lot shinier and less frizz than when it is natural.
I used to always use the semi-permanents (6 weeks or something), but this last time I wasn't able to find any so I dyed it with a permanant for the first time.
My hair has grown out about 1.5 inches, although it is hardly noticeable as the colour difference isn't that great... however, I have noticed several pieces of hair that are growing new are white. They are very shiny white and noticeable to me... but are mostly in the underlayers.
I am only 20 years old, so I don't think I could be starting to go grey now, or could I?
And is there any way possible that hair dye can cause that to happen sooner than it would have?? or is it just a myth?

Thanks. :)

It's a myth.....period!! Scare tactics for whatever reasons your mom has or who told it to her.

We all have different colours throughout our heads...maybe what you're seeing is just light ones in contrast to the solid "blanketed" colour of the permanent dyed hairs.

Semipermanent colours don't have the power to remove/deposit colour as the permanent colours do.

That's why you're seeing the difference.

It is very possible that you could be getting gray hair. I began getting gray hairs when I was 13 and began coloring my hair when I was 19. Premature graying is usually hereditary, did your mom or grandmother get gray hair early? If so then that could be the problem.

yeah its a myth. I have been dying my hair since i was 14. Im blonde and like to be lighter and sometimes dark red. My mom also has been dying her hair for years. the worst thing is does is put alot of stress on you hair and weaken it. Youjust have to condition it more then normal.
