I have had diabetes since the last 10 years and many times i have not had strict control. Also lately i have developed high blood pressure. When the Doctors prescribed Atenolol for it my BP came down but i started to have ED troubles. My doctor said that this could be due to Atenolol and instead switched me to Amlodipine and Losartan Potassium. Blood pressure is under control but my ED still persists. I get an erection but somewhere along the line i am unable to maintain it. This is a fairly recent pehnomena and i have never had this trouble in the last twenty years.
I also suffer from panic attacks for which i am taking Prozac 10 mg a day and the panic attack is under control.
Can anyone suggest what i should do.

bogmallo,
I had the exact experience that you did when I was switched from Ziac to Atenolol following a type II diagnosis. It was as if ED just showed up just after starting the Atenolol. Later I was switched to Toprol with identicial effects. Meanwhile, I had dropped the weight and exercised daily such that I no longer needed Amaryl, nor showed any complications related to type II/impaired glucose tolerance. I wanted off the beta-blocker, thinking that would solve the ED. Funny thing was that it got better, but never really returned to the consistent level of "fullness" that I once had, except on occasion. Now, if I knew why I would tell you.
Anyway, it has me left to wonder if the prior three years of undiagnosed diabetes has contributed, or is this psychological now. It makes no sense that it was brought on after taking a beta-blocker, then does not correct itself fully later, unless the impact of diabetes took its toll.
I would not hesistate to let your physician know about the lingering difficulty and perhaps give Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis a shot if you have no objection and think it would be worthwhile.

Been down the same road been diabetic type 1 for 16 years. I started having the ED about 3 to 4 months ago. Don't waste any time get to a urologist get checked out and try Cialis. Fixed me right up
