Hi everyone
I posted on another board and maybe because of the way i worded things..
I am thinking thats why i only got a 2 replies.I really hope i get a few different sides on the subject...as i just dont know what i should do at this point!!!!
I have been dealing with this mess since feb already!!! I have burning all across my shoulders and in my neck..i have severe nerve damage from hand up to elbow and carpel tunnel ...I wore a cast for 2 weeks to rest the nerve..The doc was hoping it would heal it..Within one hour of taking the cast off i was burning again!!! It hasnt stopped since..well i am taking zanaflex which eases it for me but it never really goes away!!!
Here is my problem..I have read where i could be dealing with more problems than i have now if i have the surgery and the doc nicks a nerve...The doc himself wants me to wait a month and see if resting will heal it some more..he doesnt seem real keen o nmy having the surgery either...At first it was planned for june 18th but i called today to move it to july 30...i feel i need some time to make sure this is the right thing to do!!! if i do decide to go ahead with it all ..I will have the carpel tunnel done at the same time as the elbow...I would just really like to hear from some people that have had it done good or bad experiences..Thanks in advance

I think the challenging part of this topic is that the question of having surgery can be such a personal decision it is really difficult for any us to advise you one way or the other.
I recently had a fusion procedure for a collapsed disc (lumbar spine), the procedure involved titanium intrumentation, a discectomy, and a bone graft of the left hip. The reason I had the procedure was due to DDD, and a collapsed disc which was causing severe nerve compression, pain, and muscle spasms. My quality of life had been severely impacted and it got to the point where I realized surgery was my only option. Also, when my surgeon saw the result of my EMG (nerve study) he even moved my surgery up to a sooner date.
At this point all I can recommend is to do what I did. Find out every detail you possibly can about the procedure you're Doctor is recommending you have and do as much research as possible. Also, find out specically from your Doctor what are the projected outcomes of the surgery and the potential ramficaitons if you don't.
Also, maybe post more specific details about the procedure your Doctor is recommending on the Back or Spine forums and I'm sure you will get more input than you have. People are always willing to share their experiences.

Please, keep us posted on how you are doing.

I suggest you do a whole lot of research. Are you losing strength in your arm or hand? The problem is that the chance of permanent damage is a risk you take if you wait too long. I urge you to get a second opinion as well.
As with any surgery, there is risk. But there is risk just from walking across the street! I didn't really understand if you have ruptured discs or if this is carpal tunnel. If it is ruptured discs, well, truth is you aren't going to get any better without surgery. Just exactly what no one wants to hear, I know.

I wish you luck.

Thanks so much for your replies!!
I have moderate carpel tunnel in my right hand along with severe nerve damage in hand up to elbow..While i had the cast on the burning in my neck eased considerably!!! So i am guessing all that is from the nerve damage.I have had MRI'S ...EEG'S....Xrays...blood work...This is all that has shown up so far...
