I wasn't sure if this should go in Children's health, because my son is a teenager, but here goes:

Just tonight, my son came up and showed me some red rashes on his back. There were two. One is just two insect bites side by side. The other is what concerns me. It is a large bump, outlined in red, with white in the middle. It is about 2 inches in diameter. If it helps, my son was out playing golf for five hours, and forgot to put sunscreen on. He has pretty bad burns on his arms, but that's it. I believe it's just a bad insect bite, but he has never had one that's swollen up so much (he's not allergic), and he's really neurotic about it. Could someone respond and put his fears to rest? Or, if need be, send us to the doctor? He claims to not feel any nausaea, or any other symptoms of poisonous bug or spider bites. He says he is currently seeing double, but considering he's had his nose in a book most of the day (when he wasn't playing golf), that could be understandable. Please help! My son is afraid that he won't wake up if he goes to sleep!

Thanks.

One more thing: it doesn't bother him except when he scratches it...then he claims that it hurts a lot.

Sounds like a bullseye rash from a deer tick. Get it checked out.
