I have been taking Amitryptaline for about 5 weeks now for dental pain to settle the nerve endings and to help me have a good nights sleep. I have gained at least half a stone and crave sweet things where as before it never bothered me. Has any body else found this problem happening to them?
If I stop taking them will the weight drop off !I don't expect so.

I take it for fibromyalgia and it has cause weight gain for me too. Not a happy camper, lol.

I also had weight gain while on it. Weight gain is listed as a side effect. After I stopped taking it I did lose the extra weight I had gained. I'm back on it again though and am gaining again!!!

Same here...I seemed to have gotten some of the weight off from the zoloft then ....I started this med for nerve pain...I am bloated it seems..even if i dont eat alot my belly wont go away!!! Also dont go out in the sun..you will burn like crazy!!I also have pimple like break out all over!!!! I went back on zanaflex ..It doesnt ease the burning as well but they can keep the elavil!!!

I took it for about 8 mo's and gained 20-25 lbs. This was about 3 years ago. I just finally dropped the weight w/ diet and exercise. I stopped taking it 3 years ago as well.

I was given amitryptaline 14 years ago and had a weight gain of 30 lbs. Took years to get half of it off due to CP and illness from my problem. Too ill to burn it off and the doctor never told me this would happen. I quit because of the depression of my illness and amitryptaline weightgain caused.

Elavil gives me such a craving for anything sweet. I bought a case of fudgesicles (24) a few days ago and within a day and a half I had eaten most of them!! I'm under weight right now because of my last flare up with crohns and its a darn good thing because I'm sure I gained 20 pounds after that feast!!

Thanks everyone/ I have to keep taking it for nerve pain in my teeth but i am going to try and exercise and try and not succomb to sweet cravings. Easier said than done!
At least I now know that I am not the only one although people still say to me " you have put some weight on Haven't you ".
