I recently started using a blow dryer, but someone told me it can cause split ends. Is there any special blow dryer I can buy that won't do that? Any suggestions appreciated! :)

Any suggestions appreciated! :) Sponsor quincy 06-09-2004, 08:25 PM Hi, I've used a blow dryer since 1971 DAILY. That's every day -- over 8,800 days. Sometimes twice in one day. I've never used curling irons, but I used to use heat rollers for a short time. Shampoos, conditioners and leave-in products help to keep the hair in its best condition. But, some leave-in products such as mousse can cause build-up. It's the products that build up that can cause the breakage and lead to split ends. If heat stylers are used daily, that can cause breakage and split ends. Overprocessed hair causing damage and hair that is overhandled and abused through product and heat utensils can cause split ends......but, in this day and age, there are enough products to choose from. Just handle it with care when its wet. A gel product or whatever one uses to add body used with finger drying and not brushing through until the hair is almost dry will help keep the hair shaft smooth. Regular haircuts keep the ends strong and in good condition. A wider nozzle hairdryer will give you more heated air volume rather than more direct heated air force. There are ionizing hair dryers, as well as a volumizing one. What hairstyle do you have at this time? What are you wanting to achieve through styling your hair? What hair products (shampoo, conditioner, styling, finishing) do you use? Maybe I can offer some suggestions for you. quincy heathcliff 06-09-2004, 11:09 PM Hi Quincy. Thanks for the reply :) I use Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal shampoo and conditioner. I also have recently started using Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave in cream. I really don't do anything with my hair, it's just straight and medium length. I just want it to look healthy and soft like it always has. I know I should buy salon shampoo, like Redkin or something, but I can't afford it. quincy 06-11-2004, 04:37 AM The leave-in conditioner should protect your hair well. Check out the conair dryers. They have many different kinds. I always prefer the ones that have a hi/lo or warm/hot temp as well as a hi/lo or fast/slow speed. That way you can start with a hot dryer to get the bulk of the water out and finish with a warm dryer on a higher speed. To smooth, use your brush and follow with your dryer on the slower speed. Many options that way rather than the ones with one button that is hi/lo. Hi is high speed HOT and low is slow speed warm. Sometimes not enough to get the volume you might need. Redken has shampoo for long hair...but so does other lines. Check out the retail stores for shampoo for long hair. See what the "promises" are and they might suit your needs. It seems that you already know how to care for long hair...and you value it, so I wouldn't see you having a problem. quincy |
