Guaifenesin, which often is found in cough syrup, doesn't help fibromyalgia, says the researcher who tested it. Robert Bennett of Oregon Health Sciences University gave 20 fibromyalgia sufferers guaifenesein and 20 a placebo. After a year, there was no difference. Gauaifenesin also is said to relieve painful calcium deposits in muscles and it did not do that either says Prevention Magazine. In fact, people with fibromyaglia have calcium deposits in their muscles. (TT)

Hi There,
My doctor tried the gaufenesin profile with me for about 18 months and it did help me. Maybe I'm just one of those placebo weak minded folks but I was able to work and if I didn't take it I was definitely worse.
However, funny you should mention itching. I became allergic to it just like I do to any medication I take daily. I started getting a really itchy rash.
So I don't take it anymore.
I figure if you take it and it works for you than go for it.

I gave up on the Guai idea a long time ago. I've read too much on the net about people for whom it didn't help. I wonder what the ratio is of people who get better to people who don't. I've never seen that anywhere.
Has anybody?

From what I hear if people fail on th Guai Protocall is because they don't follow it to a t. On another message board I go to, even the moderators love it. I am trying it soon and will let you all know how it works for me.

Until this recent flare up that I had 3 months ago, I was on it for 10 months and I have to tell you, it helped me. I was able to do much more than I had previously, and was hardly in any pain at all. I think that I was under so much stress at the time of the flare that nothing would have helped.
