Hi,
I'm about to be kicked out of my school due to my problem which centres around a teacher- I get panic attacks when I see 'her'. It's with my everywhere though, not just at school and I have no doubts that it would continue elsewhere. I'm not in school at the moment and it has been hell although I will admit no panic attacks- just constant thoughts, fears, a lot of anxiety symptoms. I can't touch things that remind me of 'her', etc but I will say that I feel it's worse inside my mind not being at school. It's just all built up and is overpowering.
I know it does involve a member of staff, but this member of staff did hurt me last year even if it wasn't that bad. It lead for me to have this horrible reaction which has been going on for about a year with panic attacks. However my first panic attack in front of 'her', 'she' made out was fake despite being supportive at the time, etc.
Anyway this wasn't the point to my post. I just wanted to ask that if a pysciatrist or pyscologist (or both- I have both) recomended you to stay in school, like mine should I think, would the school have to reconsider?
I think it would kill me if they don't let me come back. I have problems with projection which means they won't let me have medication due to the value I put on things, but I'm so scared that I won't be able to come back. I see that as it. And it is really because the problem won't go away and I have no way of beating it. These two weeks away from school have been really hard; I don't want to have to have this permentally or even go to another school. It's too much.
I'm just praying that the pysciatrist or pyscologist or both of them will recomend that for me. The pysciatrist was horrified at my head of years suggestion of a year out and then coming back a year later to redo the year I missed. I know that won't work anyway.
Anyway could someone please reply if you have any knowledge or opinions on this subject? Can a pysciatrist overrule a school? Or at least make them reconsider?
Thanks. take care all xx

As far as I know, a psychiatrist is supposed to be able to overrule the school. If the school does not allow it, I would go to the American's with Disabilities Act for help. Those with mental/emotional disabilities are covered under the act.

Thanks. I'll search for that on the net. Although I'm in England so I guess it would be different.

Oh, I didn't know that. Not sure who it works over there. Don't take my word for it, but I think there may be something similar over there. Though it may not work the same way.

Cheers. I've been searching but I can't find anything of real use. There's the law but there's nothing about a pysciatrist overruling a school's decision. I've done a few emails to websites though and I hope they will come back to me. Thanks for your help.

I dont know if this is allowed in England. But here in the U.S., you can be homeschooled by the school system, it takes some paperwork, but a tutor comes by a couple of times a week, gives you assignments, picks up your work, and administers tests, etc. still giving you credits as if you were attending the school itself.
Also, a parent can withdraw a student and homeschool on their own, I did this with my son for almost 2 years-we had lots of problems with a teacher, and I wasnt making head way with the principal and school system all together. He entered back into the public schools at a higher grade level after those two years, and to a different school. He has been back now for 3 yrs, he has been fine. The teacher was the sole source of his stress/anxiety, he had headaches, nervousness, scared, frightened, IBS, and chewed on the sleeves of his shirt, coming home with one arm 6 inches longer than the other, and he wasnt even realizing he was doing this while at school.
Good Luck to you

Yeah, you can be homeschooled here although if you want a tutor you have to pay. This isn't my issue though; it's that I'm not going to be okay if I can't go back. It's a mess really. I still don't know for definate what's happening other than I can go in for exams. I'm expecting a letter from my pyscologist soon as he contacted the school- else something from the school.
Thankyou; I'm glad it worked out for you and your son. Take care xXx

If you think you can go back to school go back to school. Its so unfair of them to make you stay back a year because they think they know whats best for you. You know whats best for you. If they don't let you go back, then go to another school.
I had a similar problem where I couldn't be near a certain person, but I got over it now, and I've even had a conversation with that person. I used to skip school because of the person.
I switched schools because of "persons" I couldn't be near, and my new school was did things differently, so I ended up a year behind.
Go back to school if tyou really want to.

however you may later develope a phobia about some other teacher, look up phobia on the net

Hi,
Thankyou for all of your notes. As it stands now I am out of school. I'm not officially excluded; I'm just not allowed back.
However it seems that I've got to go to a different school. I feel so weird. Terrible really but in shock. I only found out yesterday. I feel so strange.
There's nothing the pyschologist can do as it's not his decision. Only the heads.
gah. Oh well. Thankyou ever so much for all of your help. Take care xxx
