View Full Version : Okay to swim after dyeing hair?

Cause I just dyed my hair yesterday. I dyed red strokes in my brown hair. Will chlorine so soon bleach my hair? Or will it be ok for me to swim for an hour? Should I use a hair mask for coloured hair afterwards? Or the conditioner that came wtih the paint? Or should I go swimming with hair mask in my hair?

since you just did this yesterday- I would refrain from getting chlorine on it- it could ruin the color

Red is the worst with fading. Be careful with it.

So you're suggesting I shouldn't go swimming then...

Isn't a day long enough for it to get in the hair?

Agh my mom won't let me stay home!
And I might not be able to pass for my lifeswimming exam if I don't go.. bugger! But I would hate having my hair ruined even more..

Won't it help if I used the colour-protective mask on it? Or will it just wash out? Not entirely, right?

I always thought any time after dying that chlorine can mess up your hair. It is a really nasty chemical.

Just to be safe....wear a swim cap!

They are not very fashionable, but at least your hair will be saved.

But the amount of chlorine in the water, is it enough to ruin it then? Darn! This is frustrating...

Chlorine amounts vary. Some people put a lot in, some people put a little. There is a recommended amount, but people do what they want. Sometimes people put chlorine bleach in their pools to help clean them. If it smells, or it starts to burn your eyes, it's probably really high.

Ever notice a faded bathing suit from swimming in pools?? It could do that to your hair too.

It's high then... Damn why do I have to go there EVERY training in order to pass the exam.

I have blond highlights and no matter how old they are, I can not swim...they fade and turn green and makes my hair really brittle and dry! So, when I go swimming...I do not go under water.

lol. Well mine aren't blonde. Well anyway, first I had wine-red strokes which I liked better. But these copper-red strokes after swimming are okay as well. It's a shame, but it's still good. Besides, I've been swimming for so long and all of that would have been for nothing if I didn't go now. Not that is holds any value to me or anything. Guess it's just the idea of succeeding.

Use a leavein or deep conditioner everytime on wet hair before swimming. It helps to fill it and not let he cholrine in. You need to buy a waterproof rubber swim cap as well. These suggestions hold true for anyone who swims in pools but chemically treated hair especially.
