The Atkins diet is very safe for people with seizures. It is based on the ketogenic diet, which is a diet used to prevent seizures. I used to do Atkins and ran it by by neuro, who said it was perfectly safe and in fact recommended for people with epilepsy. Going on Atkins MAY help your seizures.
If you have questions why not ask your neurologist about its safety.

Yes, it can be very helpful with seizures, but you SHOULD be monitored by a doctor while on that diet. THere are other complications that need to be watched.
Hope the surgery has helped you and that you can loose the weight! Some AED(seizure meds) have a problem of adding weight, some actually cause weight loss...

The Atkins diet is perfectly safe. I have never heard of these "complications" that you refer to? What do you mean specifically?

It is a very high fat diet. There are studies that show an increase in heart issues and cholestorol for some individuals on the diet. IT is also a diet devoid of a number of nutrients. Since fruit and vegetables are limited, it is usually required that vitamins be taken to counter act the defiency...
It can be a safe way, when monitored by a physician.

It is also quite a separate diet from the Keto which is also based on keeping certain ratios exact all the time and specific for that individual...
Hopkins and Boston's Mass General (I think it is that one) Are using this for some adults now.
Great thing to try when a doctor is seeing you through it all. It is a tough diet to maintain for some people. THere are a huge number of new products on the market that can help now, though....

Which studies are you citing? I would like to know. All the studies I have seen, including the recent Duke University study, show the opposite. Moreover, my cholesterol, trigylicerides, and lipids all fell by over seventy points when I was doing atkins. I ate three cups of veggies a day....a lot more then before I was on Atkins. Have you ever read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution...or do you just believe that this is the bacon and steak diet?

Well, there is atkins diet alert . org that you can look at...
There are lot of others. I have been to several conferences where Neurologists have voice concern with long term use of Atkins, but they also say it can be worth trying.
It is great that you had such great results. Does this mean that your results are typical of all who try it? Probably not...
I am not trying to disuade anyone from trying it, unless they try it on their own, with no physician overseeing it all.
It is great for some, but there are some who have had cardiac problems....
It is great that it seems to have gotten you back on track....

I looked at atkinsdietalert...there are so many misconceptions about Atkins on that site! their "typical menu" is absurd!
