Hi, I was recently on vicodin but they have switched me to methadone and I was just wondering what to expect, will I get the same feeling from methadone than vicodin?

I am not sure what you mean by the same "feeling". Methadone works differently from lots of other meds and is a really good drug for nerve pain. It must be taken on a schedule, not "when needed". You should start at a low dose and gradually be titrated up. What dose are you on right now?
In the beginning, it made me very sleepy, that passed in a few days. I had pain in my legs caused from spinal stenosis and the L4-5 nerve root is trapped in scar tissue. It takes 4-5 days to start noticing it working for you. I rated my leg pain at 8-9 when I started the methadone. I only needed 5mg, 3xdaily and my pain level dropped to about a 3-4 within 5 days.

Be careful as this is a very powerful drug...do a search for it so you can watch for side effects.

Meth doesn't have the euphoria, or it doesn't continue to cause euphoria the way hydrocodone does, But managing the pain is not about how the med makes you feel, It's about anelgesia, and you don't need to feel high to obtain pain relief.

Meth is 5-10 times more potent than morphine where Hydro is equal in strength to morphine. Meth has a half life from 20-30 hours so each dose you take builds upon the previous doses, If it doesn't feel strong enough the first day, do not increase your dose the second, Half the dose from day one will add to the next doses for up to 5 days

.On the 3rd day you have 1/4 of the dose from day one, half the dose from day 2 and the full dose from day 3, this continues for about 5 days. After 5 days your serum level will stabalize by taking the same dose every day for 5 days and you will have a better idea of how much pain relief your getting.
You should get about twice the relief on the 5th day that you got on the first day. That's why you don't want to increase it from day to day , you have to stabalize a serum level and then evaluate how much relief your getting. If you asociate relief with euphoria, you won't be to pleased with meth.
Good luck, dave

losers -

Just curious how you are doing on the methadone? How much and often do you take it? What has been your reactions so far? How is your pain levels?

I ask all this because I started methadone 5mg/3x daily just this past Wednesday. Looking for others for their stories too!

losers,

I too am wondering what you meant about "feeling" like vicoden. I don't take meth and never have, but have considered it and read up on it. I would be more concerned about the pain relief than the "feeling". Sorry if I took your question the wrong way. Good luck with the meth.

God Bless,
