I recently posted in the foot board thinking of gout, but now it seems something else is going on. My feet on different occassions swell, and now it has spread up my leg. I am now on anit-inflammatory drugs for this. I have had blood tests and don't know what they are for. Would anyone know what these are for. I have found 3 of them in the board here but 3 I have not. They are............c-reactive protein...anti DSDMA.Asotiter...........the others were RA........Sed Rate and ANA which I have found here. Any answers are much appreciated. I am waiting on the results and then have to see a rheumalologist.

C-reactive protein measures inflammation, anti-dsDNA is to test for antibodies against your DNA, and I'm not sure about the other one. A titer is the amount of times your blood has to be diluted before whatever they are looking for doesn't show up anymore. Your doctor is testing you for either lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, or some other autoimmune disorder. A good place to ask questions and get information is the lupus board. Be sure to take a list of EVERY symptom you have been having when you go to the rheumatologist. It sometimes takes a long time to get a definitive diagnosis and the more you can tell your doctor, the better the chance he can figure it out. Good luck.

I did a search for ASO titer and this is what I found.

This is a blood test to measure anti-streptolysin O (ASO) antibodies.
Why is the Test Performed?

This test is used to detect prior infection by Group A Streptococcus, the bacterium responsible for diseases such as glomerulonephritis, rheumatic fever, bacterial endocarditis, and scarlet fever.

ASO testing demonstrates the presence of antibodies generated by the body against the enzyme streptolysin O, which is produced by the bacteria and which causes destruction of red blood cells. The ASO antibody may be detected in the blood for weeks or months after the primary infection has been eradicated

:)
Thanks so much for your answers. I will check out the lupus site also. My family doctor said he is checking on everything but does not think it is that hopefully.

I hope not either. And the odds are in your favor. Lupus strikes women 9:1 over men.

ANA test is for autoimmune diseases.Means theres some kind of inflammation going on in the body.Good luck with the rheumey,i was just there bout a wk ago.I tested ANA positive twice with no other symptoms,so now i dont know what the heck is going on.Nothing like having a test turn up positive and the docs still dont know whats going on .Hope you have better luck than i did.Take care.

According to everything I've read, healthy people will also occassionally have a positive ANA. If you don't have any symptoms to make you suspect an autoimmune disease, I'd keep an eye on it, but not stress over it too much.

Went to the doctor today who specializes in arthritis, and he said things look good for me as the blood showed no signs of the RA and NO lupus. He said the test results all looked good. He has not completely ruled out gout, but changed my medication to a more arthritis affective type. I go back in two weeks and will go from there. So will see.
