Will having an active systemic autoimmune disease like RA or lupus mess up your cycles? I was regular until about 4 months ago and now when I will start is anyone's guess.

i haven't had regular periods in two years and i am just getting to the bottom of my autoimmune issues.. both my gps told me that is how they know when it is sysemtic.. when it messes up the cycle..
i also was reading that autoimmune issues will cause the body to go into early and premature menopause.

Does anyone else know anything about this? It's an interesting thought. Anyone know of any medical literature on the topic? I have a systemic autoimmune disease and do not have a regular cycle

I was dx'd last year with PA, and I haven't had regular cycles since I was a young teen(without using the pill). I don't know if Psoriatic Arthritis is a systemic autoimmune disease, but nevertheless, strange coincidence.

I have SLE and Sjogren's, and haven't had a period on two and a half years. (I'm 42, and not menopausal; had all the tests to rule it out.) In my case, my doc told me it's because the lupus has, over time, inflammed and subsequently destroyed the lining of my uterus. I know there are other causes of missed or infrequent periods due to the systemic autoimmune disease, too; I found out a lot of info by Googling it. Sue

I have not gotten my period since I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I don't know if it is the meds, the disease, or the stress of it all??

I am 33yrs old now and I don't have a peroid at all anymore from my AIH. I beleive it's very common with Autoimmune diseases. I read it as a symptom to many of them.

After doing some research I found that one of the drugs I am on can effect my menstrual cycle....and it sure has!! But it took some digging to find that out...funny no one told me about it from the begining. Oh well.
