My sister has hormonaly brought on seizures. She has had a hard time getting the right medication because of this, I believe right now she's on Topomax? During mid month this time she had several mini seizures and then just at the end of her period. She usually gets the seizures every other month because in between she gets an increase in her dose. However, this time they were worse. They were more frequent and more intense. Last night I was talking to her and she said she feels like she should have a big seizure. She feels like it's building to that. She feel a pressure in her head. Does anyone know what she's feeling? Is she heading for a big one? She had a neighbor who would have a big seizure at least once a year and then she was ok. Any help is very appreciated. Thank you. Connie

Hi Connie!

Epilepsy that is affected by the menstrual cycle is called catamenial epilepsy. This is quite common and there's loads of info and advice already posted on the boards on this subject. Check out Hellokathy's thread “Seizures happen around your period?? Good news for you!” on page 3 of the boards. Good luck!

You asked what it feels like to feel like you are building up to a big seizure. This can feel like a feeling of intense spaciness, an intense feeling of anxiety, a feeling of a lot of electricity in the air, or nausea or dropping feeling in the pit of your stomach. My question is, have you asked your sister what she's feeling when she says this? Only she knows for sure.
