Just curious... could you all give me an idea of when babies sleep through the night? Not that I am expecting it any time soon, but just wondering.... my sister says her daughter was 2.5 weeks old.. my MIL says he kids were 5 weeks and 6 weeks... my mother says I was 3 MONTHS! Just curious as to what the average is. Thanks.. Mary Jane

Each baby is different. No one can give you an exact answer on this one. Both of mine done great after 3 weeks...until the teething started at 5 months. A friend of mine just had a baby at the end of April..he is colicky and does not sleep all night. He wakes around 9:00p.m. and she feeds him, changes him--by 10:00--he is wide open, screaming and carrying on. She is very lucky to get in the bed by 1 am but most of the time 3 am. ( they are working with the formula, but no luck so far). I have heard of some babies not sleeping all night until a year old. So it really depends on the baby. Wish I could say that you can have a full nights sleep within the next couple of weeks, but cant promise that it will happen, so I wont. LOL good luck

Happymom, my cousin said that her baby girls started sleeping through the night at around 2 months.
I hope you don't mind me adding to your question, but I'm breastfeeding, and I've been told that I need to feed her every 1.5 to 3 hours. If she started sleeping through the night, my milk supply would start to drop. So, my addition to the question is, when should a breastfed baby start to sleep through the night.
I just wanted to see if any of you ladies knew before I went to a lactation consultant.

if you are breast feeding you really should feed once through the night. i think getting the babies in a good sleep pattern is very important. my son has been in his own crib in his own room from 8 weeks and slept through the night consistently from 3 months on. my friend who had a baby 12 hours before i did (they are almost a year) is still fighting her little one. she has tried everything but he pretty much runs her life. sometimes he will get up every hour!!!!
if you want to feel sorry for anyone, feel sorry for her. in the last year she has slept through the night 6 times. wow huh?
My first baby began to sleep through the night after the 40 days, but I guess every baby is different.

i think it is more acurate to go by how much a baby weighs rather than the age...
and the average i believe to be around 10-12 lbs before they sleep through the night, (my daughter was 10 lbs when she did and she was 3 months)
but you have to consider she was born weighing only 6lbs....so obviously it took a while to get her to 10-12lbs, but a baby weighting 7-8 lbs at birth may get to 10 lbs at 5 or 6 weeks old....
so i really think going by weight is more acurate

Near as I can figure mine was about 11 months. Now she sleeps but I'm still used to being up.On the bright side, when she transfers to a big girl bed we both get to be up again. ;)
