Need your help.
I have been on the same dose of Oxycontin now for over 1 year. It is very hard for me to find a doctor who understand the same problem we all have that it does not last 12 hours a day. I am now lucky if it last 6 hours then the rest of the time I am aloud 1 vicodin. which does nothing for me. I am feeling like half of the other time I am withdrawing.
I have now been seeing my new pain management doctor for only 2 months and he eve had a problem giving me break thru meds. now he gives me enough for just 2 a day when I use to get twice that much. Do to my insurance there aren't many pain management doctors for me to choice from.
I was admitted to the hospital for pain control for 3 days over 22 1/2 weeks ago not from my pain doctor by the way who told me he could do nothing for me. I am feeling like I am headed right back there again, but I can't because I am afraid of losing my job. I am confused and must me very honest with everyone feeling like I can't go on like this for much longer. I feel so lost.
What should I do??

I'm sorry you seem to have "one of those" pm Dr's. It really makes me nuts when they let people suffer this way, and then expect them to go no where else for help. I would suggest either making an appt. with him asap and telling him what this is doing to your quality of life and see if that gets you anywhere or interview any other pm Dr. that may be under your insurance in the meantime and then make a switch if you find a decent one. They admitted you for three days(?) It must have been out of control pain and for your Dr. to ignore that is unreal!! Perhaps a call to the hospital to ask whom they would reccomend? Please try to hang in there, believe me I know it's not easy having been there myself. Anyway, please post back and let us know how you are doing....Love, Surgical Disaster

I think Surg had a great idea about calling the hospital that had admitted you to see who they could recommend. I'm in Canada and thank goodness I don't have to worry about my insurance only covering certain docs and meds and so forth. I am also truly blessed with the doc I have now. She is very caring and considerate. If I'm having a bad few days all I have to do is call her and she gives me permission to take a few extra of my pain meds until things settle down. I did have trouble with her off the start though but I'm sure glad I decided to stick things out with her. I sure hope your doc decides to help you out more or that you can find a better doc that your insurance will cover.

i had this same problem with my PM doc on the first day.they believe that you should only need long acting pain meds and if you need BT meds that they need to raise the LA dose.Well, the type of pain that I have causes these sudden horrid jumps in my pain levels so the raising the La dose theory just dosen't work very well for me.
i had a discussion with my NP the (nurse practioner rxes the meds at my clinic, the pM doc does the procedures)about why I needed the BT meds and told her that you cannot treat everyones pain in the same way as no two people will feel pain in the same way and there are so many different types of pain. You need to treat pain individually.well, after this discussion, I did start to get two oxy IRs per day.It isn't ideal, but i am still working on her.My point is is that you really need to have a very in depth chat with your doc to explain just why this method of pain control is not working for you,and what you feel would be the ideal way for you.Hopefully, you will fall somewhere in between.Since it sounds like you are going to have to stay with this Dr, you two need to know where each other is at here you know?Good luck,i hope this helps some.Marcia
