I'm not sure what has happened http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bigcry.gif but I am so sad. I slept okay last night but had a tough time rolling over (so what's new, right?)
Went to get up this morning and we all know this feeling of not being able to sit without #10 pain (or to even get into a sitting position without spasms out of this world) My back is just not supporting me - we all know that feeling as well. I think I need a cane. I can't walk without holding onto something.
I was doing so well, what has happened? I think I'm quitting and just pray I haven't damaged something further. Feels right now that I have torn more discs or something. This just cannot be right.
I'm going to call them at 8:00 and see if they can get me in for evaluation..... crap! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/mad.gif I should have never tried this, I think.
Sorry I've been complaining the last couple of days. You all must be tired of hearing it. It's my own stupid fault that this has happened.
Please try and relax!!! Being in that much pain must be so so hard my dear friend, I will pray for you and hope that you get the help you deserve.Plese let me know how you get on after calling them,
This is NOT right...

Hey http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
You guys are so great. I was so down and you made me cry, all of you. (which didn't help the spasms, I might add http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif ) Thank you so much. I love you all. I can't believe I lived without you for so long!
Sorry I went off. And...I didn't quit the DRX. It was just ("just" is such a relative term, isn't it?) muscle spasms (you were right, Pebbles - I suspected, too) but I was always told that muscle spasms were caused when you injure yourself and the spasms are telling you not to move a certain way or it will spasm in an attempt to stop you.
Well, because I was progressing so nicely and doing everything I was supposed to, that told them that there must be something else going on either emotionally or chemically. They spend 2 hours with me testing, etc.
He first did some emotional (muscle testing) tests to see if I "wanted to be pain free". I passed all those. (you never know I guess, what is hidden in the subconcious (sp).
After doing all the testing, this doc believes that I have a sensitivity to caffeine, nutrasweet, coffee and sugar and must cut all of these out of my diet - anything to make this work!! (So, Pebbles, there goes our tea/whisky http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bigcry.gif.)
The muscle spasms are still there, but he tanked me up on calcium and magnesium and wants me to chew a tablet every 15 minutes and said that it should calm them down.
I am so sorry to hear about the awful pains you have been having, but it sounds like you are on the upswing again. It must be terribly discouraging to see significant improvement and then suddenly have new pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this treatment - hang in there!

Hey, Husker!!
Haven't checked the boards all day until now and I just saw your post and wanted to add my support. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif You have been so nice to me without even knowing me... and I want to hear how you are doing, good or bad, so I can be there for you to lean on when you're feeling bad, and can rejoice with you when things are going well.
I always look for your posts and am eager to hear how you are doing!!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I AM concerned for you... it's hard for me to believe that something that makes you go through so much pain can be helping your back. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif
But, giving up nutrasweet and caffeine certainly can't hurt, and probably could help!
Best of luck, and we're all rooting for you! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif

Wow, Husker I feel for you. Episodes like that are really draining. It's definately important not to stress yourself out further.
It sounds like you handled it well & I'm glad it wasn't something more serious.
I hope your continuing to feel better. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi there Husker! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
I am so sorry to see you have been in such bad pain, but now sounds as tho you are improving ? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Just wanted to say after my Spinal op when I came home from Rehabilitation to get me walking , 5 days later a massive spasm shot up my leg and all my waist/rib muscles went into 'Rock- Hard-' like Muscles Spasms and stayed like that for 9 days till went to A&E..OOOOOOHHHH!!
They gave me Morphine for the pain which was agony !!.. then Diazepam, which relaxed the rock muscles overnight!.. It was amazing ..
but then I was left with "ripped muscles" for a while which need pain killers until they heal..Still not gone altogether yet , but better ..
It is TERRIBLE PAIN Husker , so don't you feel we are tired of hearing about your pain!!.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/nono.gif We care about you on here !!..
God, I am always on here with some problem, but if it wasn't for the Friends I have met on here such as Davy D and Oliver and All, I don't know how I would've survived at times ??!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif
So good luck with your spasm pain,Husker..
Will keep looking to see how you are doing,OK?
Cheers Belle NZ xxx

Hi! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
Thanks again for everyone's support, thoughtfulness and prayers. I woke up feeling about the same - didn't get much sleep. Something I was doing in my sleep would fire those muscles and I would almost let out a scream http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/eek.gif and if I could have, I would have sat straight up.
However, throughout the day, I am improving slowly. You're so right, Juniper, I am soooo http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/yawn.gif tired. I am going to go take a nap.
Thanks again, all. I don't think I can do anything but continue to improve, right?
Belle, my muscles are so sore right now, I cannot believe you endured the length of time of these spasms like you did. This pain truly is from hell and relentless.
I too just had surgery. Though mine was a different procedure, I did have your surgery about 4 years ago, twice. I do recall that the worst part of the recovery process was the muscle spasms.
Just hang in there, breathe, relax. Get some aromatherapy, comfy clothes, and try someone massaging your hands or feet while you have a spasm. It may sound weird but it worked for me. They do go away.
Good Luck

Just wanted you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers - after having surgery in July I endured a horrible muscle spasm in the exact spot of my incision as I was moved from recovery to my room. I could not sit up, lay down, I was "stuck" in the most ackward position. I cried, screamed, and had a horrible "potty mouth" to the nurses ( I felt so bad for that later) - the pain was horrible. Finally after about 3 shots of morphine/demoral and 3 of toradol I finally relaxed enough to lay down. The next day I felt like I had been run over by a football team. I do know how you feel and it is NOT fun! Try and relax and remember you are in our thoughts and prayers!

Hey, http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
Thanks again, for everyone's concern.
It's been 4 days since onset, I have not had any caffeine, sugar, nutra-sweet or coffee http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif (not too happy about that!). The muscle spasms have diminished somewhat, but not all together. And, actually have been having some new ones right below my rib cage on my left side.
My back is sooooooo sore. I guess my spinal column is swollen http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif which causes excruciating pain in my low back radiating from my spine to the front at my pelvic bones when I turn my head or look down or up. It still feels like my back is not able to support me.
But, I am feeling a little better where the spasms are concerned. Was this all really caused by a chemical imbalance? My back feels so very fragile right now.
Feel like I'm just no help or good for anybody, you know? I'll be so grateful when this episode is over.
Hi Husker http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
Goodness, I read this entire string to your posts, what a cheering group you have on here! That is so good.. I agree with the people who posted on here. You have been sooooo much inspiration, and wealth of knowledge for all of us. You take the negative situation and turn it into a positive one with all your helpful posts.
And you know what? We are only human. Of course you, and all of us are going to break down. What better place than this board? I don't know about you, but I feel bad for those that are constantly around me and have to hear me talk about my pain, and my back.
Bless our loved ones around us, as they really are allot of support, but I feel they do not completely understand.. thus, comes this great board!
Feel free to post to me ANYTIME you want, and especially when you are down http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
We are all here for each other. You even have Davy D posting to you!!! He seems like such a good person.
Giving up the caffeine eh?? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/eek.gif Hmmmm wonder if I should do that??
Those muscle spasms sound awful scarey. Have you tried the Horse Liniment yet? Do you remember me telling you all about it?? Well, you can always drop me a note if you have any questions on it.
For me, at the end of the day, when all is said and done, Horse Liniment's the one!! tee hee.. really though!
Well Cutie, you just hang in there, and do whatever you have to do to be comfortable!
Keep us posted on how you are feeling!

Wow Husker! I didn't know you had been through this ordeal - I'm so sorry to hear that! Reading your posts makes me think that my problems seem minor compared to yours! I feel so badly for you! I hope things are looking up and that you are feeling much better! I know how frustrating back pain can be - and you're dealing with it ten-fold! Hopefully you're on the mend! My well-wishes are with you! I wish we could do something about our football team! Take Care!

Hi Crip,
I am also part of a no-fault case.
At least in NY we call car accident related, "no fault"
I think it stinks that we have to deal with all of this pain and life changes, due to some other drivers fault.
When did you have your surgery ? was it fours months ago, right after the discogram ?
Did you have a fusion ?
I don't mean to be nosey, It's just that I am also hoping to settle soon after the surgery if possible.
I spoke to my attorney yesterday, he thinks we could settle in 3-4 months, but it can be held up for many other reasons by the insurance company.
I don't want to go to trial, because that will even take up more of my time.
I am new to this insurance thing, so any info. you can offer me would be greatly appreciated, that is, if you don't mind.
My accident was back in July of 2000.
How are you doing since the surgery ?
I hope things are getting back to normal for you, as you don't deserve anymore pain.
Has your attorney received any offers to settle yet ?
My attorney told me that would be the first step, and then he would counter offer them.
I guess they keep countering each other, until they reach a fair agreement.
I'm just trying to find out what I will be dealing with, especially since you are in the process further along than I am.
I don't know how the whole process plays out, as far as timing.
Thank you in advance,
Baxter

I forgot about this thread. Thanks for inquiring.
Another update is this - was supposed to have 20 treatments. I am on my 25th tomorrow because there is so much going on with my back.
The rack dr. (Dr. H) has been great after a rough start with me. I'm not real sure where we're going from here after I'm done.
My leg pain is gone but I have had sooooo many set backs (in one right now as a matter of fact) that it is hard to tell what benefit I have received other than the leg pain being gone, which is huge in itself.
That tells me that the bulges are diminishing or gone. But the back pain and spasms that started this thread came back with a vengence yesterday.
So much so that last night I was at probably a high 8 or 9 - on the brink of the er. Dr. H. saw me today and did some modalities & acupuncture. What actually happened on top of spasms yesterday is last night we backed into a light pole pretty hard.
I wasn't prepared for it and my back just kind of seized up on me. It went south real fast after that.
I have 2 more sessions and then I guess we'll discuss. Dr. H. did say that I shouldn't worry, that they won't give up on me which really made me feel good!
For anyone interested in my opinion on this treatment - I do believe in it. It has been very painful for me but remember, I have several tears in each disc: L1/2, L2/3, L3/4 and L5/S1 and two of those discs have full thickness tears. Also bulges throughout my thoracic and they think probably my neck as well.
There is alot more going on that just bulges or herniations (not to minimize the pain that accompanies those!) I sincerely believe that herniations and/or bulging discs can be repaired with this treatment.

Davy http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif - you are such a dear, you know that?
Elaine, give him a big (((((((HUG))))))) for me, K?
Thank you, my dear, dear friend!
Okay, this is what has happened today. Dr. H. said that he believes the DRX has done what it is going to do. He was disappointed that we didn't get more out of it, but he said my pathology was so unique that this is going to be the best it gets. So we cancelled my last appt. with the rack http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_up.gif and that's okay by me!
However, he wanted to continue with the work on the spasms and all the other issues in my back chemically and emotionally and work on continuing to strengthen my spine. That is also okay by me because I think the guy knows his stuff. And, DRX excluded, I always feel better leaving his office.
So, that's where the Husker is right now. Still spasming but not quite so violent. They are going away, slowly but surely, in pain, but maintaining once again http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif.
Again, I think that the DRX 9000 is a wonderful treatment and could make many pain free. It just wasn't meant for me. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif .
