Alcohol does more than slow down metabolism. It contains tons of empty calories. That's why college freshmen often gain weight when they go to school - the "Freshman 15" it's usually called. What they don't often realize is that they can drink 1000 to 2000 calories in one evening. That's as much food as you should eat in a single day! It takes 3500 extra calories to gain a pound. So if you go out drinking 2 or three nights a week, you're looking at a pound or two a week you could be packing on. Number one thing to do: STOP DRINKING!!! A little now and then won't hurt you, but don't binge. You might see immidiate results, depending on how often you drink now.

Reduce your calories or increase your excercise or both. Drink LOTS of pure water - this will help your kidneys and liver metabolize the food you eat - if you were drinking a lot of alchohol, their function was likely impaired to some extent. Another common mistake is dropping your food intake too drastically. BIG mistake - this will actually prevent you from losing the pounds.
Also keep in mind that as you age you may lose your ability to "eat like a cow and not gain." There comes a time for us all where we must begin to watch what we eat and become more proactive about our bodies and our health!
Have you considered joining weight watchers or other program - they may be able to help you accomplish your 3-week goal in a healthy way.

Hello, Alcohol is also loaded with sugar, which means that one drink would be like drinking a liquid candy bar. You've made a first good step and wise decision to lay off the boose. Remember though, if you are at a party, do not be tempted to go into binge drinking. Binge drinking puts on the weight too. Remeber the term "beet belly."
Exercise is one of the best things you can do to speed up your metabolism and get it back to normal. Find someone to play tennis with, bike, walk , run, go to the gym, etc. Just find some time to do some form of exercise for 20-60 min. per day. Then you'll see the pounds roll off again.
A quick fix would be to eat soups and salads, but don't forget to eat breakfast. ..Bkf. - Toast or bagel and OJ...Lunch - 1-2 bowls (not cups) of any soup and 4 crackers...Super - As much salad as you can eat.
