I am so glad I have found ya'll! I have felt like I was loosing my mind for the past couple of months! I have had problems with PMS for several years. But here in the last few months...I felt like I had permanent PMS or something...I had never missed a period in my life except three times and they all three have names ( My 3 kids..LOL) But I went through pregnancy tests and then...I had an ultrasound and a vaginal ultrasound to find out I had cysts on my ovaries which form then rupture...only to peat and repeat! And a small fibroid cyst on my uterus. So that was the cause of the late period and now I have no idea to what my cycle is now. I just started my period again today and I have only been off the last one for a week . I have always went for 7-9 days....but here lately it's been 10-12 days! Anyways,..gettin to the point here...
I have terrible mood swings
lack of desire FOR ANYTHING..much less sex
weight gain
enlarged thyroid (thyroid test showed everythign normal)
ovary cysts
mood swings that come out of the blue
'dont care' attitude
dislike myself and others (i'm really a good person...LOL)
self pity
anxiety (had it since I was 19...pretty much have mastered it now)
eye dryness
fatigue
edema (swollen ankles and feet at the end of the day...Do ya'll do that?)
I love my husband but I just don't like him
I love my kids...but they drive me nuttier now than before by their lack of respect
house work is crucial but who has the energy ...Company? Who cares...we live in it...they can at least sit in here for awhile! (it's not that bad I promise)
irritablily ( I work a full time job and I go to school at night...and some days I feel like my insides are vibrating from frustration)
twitcy eyes
twitchy legs
twitchy nose (this week)
noisy stomach even when I have eat
I have all the 'celes' you can think of
cystocelle, rectocele,prolapsed uterus
And ......I think I covered most of it!
Oh yeah...I wake up of a morning and whether it's cool or hot...I have sweaty hands and feet! What's up with that?
I am more nervous of a morning than any other time... I take beta blocker for tachycardia (fast heart rate) and I have tot ake it before I even get up of amorning...approx 30 minutes so my heart doesn't feel like it's gonna thump out of my chest!
Thank you all! I just told my husband I wasn't crazy after all! God Bless!

Hi Fireplace,
My bad symptoms came on suddenly the year I turned 50. It lasted a total about 5 months for me. I don't think I ever really had bad peri-meno symptoms (the years leading into actual menopause) but when I was about to "transition" from peri to actual menopause, that's when it came on hard and sudden. I didn't feel better until I was put on Paxil CR. I heard that it doesn't get rid of the symptoms - it just helps you manage them better. All I know is that I felt much better once I was on it.
I was still getting my period some of the months when I was feeling really really bad. Started feeling bad in Aug 03 at which I had my period in Aug, Sept, Nov. Then no period from Nov. 2003 until June 04. Was put on Paxil in Dec. 03, felt better Jan. 04. Had a period in June 04 and none since. So, the whole transition has taken about 2 years so I'm 52 now, the same age that my mother finished hers.
What are you going thru?
molly

What about this burning. I am getting this cool sensation in my mouth/tongue/lips, it is bothering me soo much. Now it seems to be going down my throat to my lungs. I had this a couples of times before, but it wasn't this intense. My stomach is so bloated all the time, tired, depressed, gassy.
What is every doing about the stomach problems. I can't wait until this all eases up.

Hi poslusny55,
I often feel this in my chest also, as if I am getting a lung infection or something. Then in a few hours, it goes away. This burning on the other hand is always there.
My face, head legs, arms. It drives me nuts at times. When cold air hits me, it is really bad. Is anyone else going through this?

I am four years post and I can go along feeling fine for quite awhile and then I run into a wall. Like now I feel bloated every time I eat even a little, I'm tired, I fall asleep watching TV around seven then have trouble staying asleep at night, an almost constant headache at the back of my head and horrible hot flashes. I wish I knew what makes it come and go like that. All I know is when I feel really bad I can come here for comfort and you never fail to provide it.

Molly - what did you do to get rid of the dry skin - I feel like a croissant!!! I always had porcelain/non blemished skin, and thanks to M - I have become a crusty ole broad if ya get my message. I am thinking the flaxseed oil or fish oil? I need some kinda oil for sure, but then oil causes blemishes, so can you guys straighten me out on the vanity issue here? Thanks and hang in there and if all else fails have a girls nite out and bash the H____ out of the men. (the mean ones of course, heheheh)

Was sick and on corticosteroids for nearly 6 months earlier this year. Had crashing fatigue and many many menopause symptoms but docs all thought it was from the steroids and recovery. So now I'm healthy, off steroids and from the list of 35 symptoms, have about 25. Doc says I'm in transition to full blown menopause. I never would have imagined it at the age of 45
It's great reading through all these posts. I may be going crazy but at least I know my symptoms are real.

For Les and Bonib (I think that how I remember your names...memory fails with meno also) you are not crazy and all your symptoms are real. Welcome to hell and there is no telling when it will end. I was 45 years when I went through meno and still have all the symptoms except no spotting/bleeding. No doc can tell you when it will end because they don't know. Now they can tell you plenty about Viagra and other male problems and have solutions for them, which in the grand scheme of things don't mean a thing to women. I can say on the positive side that I only have hot flashes about 3 nights a week now instead of three time a night; sex....who cares, aches and pains constantly, panic attacks always especially in regards to my health...if I went to a shrink he would think I was schizo...highs and lows...no in between....feel like a nutcase most of the time and probably act like one too, but until they (the brillant pharmaceutical researchers HA!) come up with something that won't cause ovarian cancer or any cancer we are stuck. For the record I have tried all the natural and pharmaceutical remedies that are marketed and guess what...I wish I had my money back. Next time I post I will probably be in an "up" mode over meno, but for today....I feel like someone peed in my pasta! :bouncing:

 Perimenopause started for me when I was about 40 years old. By 46 I was in full blown menopause...no period...night sweats...not sleeping....blah, blah, blah...you know the drill. Everything that can make you feel lousy physically and mentally hits you. I am now 51 years young and turning 52 in March. So as I said, it is abit better, but I still have sweats 3 times approx. a week and sleeping straight through the night doesn't happen anymore. I used to sleep like a log...ah well.
As for your friend, I am not a doctor however I suppose it could happen to someone that young. I would imagine it was quite rare if there were no other health problems that brought premature menopause on for her. She will have to be careful with her bones and heart issues as estrogen is very important at such a young age to be without and even worse taking estrogen in a pill form. Ah well, her doc has it handled for her we can be sure...

-stinging pain on intercourse (not that bad, goes away usually, more often I have sex the less it hurts)
-problems with having orgasm
-don't like breast stimulation anymore
All the rest of it hasn't been a problem. No hot flashes, fatigue ..... not sure it's a good trade-off.

I'm not a physician, but I read where polycystic disease (ovarian) can cause these symptoms, especially with the hair loss. You might look at this also, since you have ovarian cysts. Has something to do with thyroid function. Not life threatening or anything. Good luck! Deborah

For about 10 years it's just been mild stuff--sweats, panicky feelings, etc. Then in January I had this period that lasted a month. I went to gyn who put me on Levlen and it stopped. But here's the main thing. I had cts (carpal tunnel) and had both hands operated on. I think besides the physical part of that I had issues where I had confusion in driving. In January I hated to get behind the wheel of my car and go anywhere. Once I was on Levlen, that has changed some. I feel a little more confident driving. I still don't go far. I also have tinnitus (ringing in my ears) and not sure if that was from being on Naporsyn so long for the cts, whether it is related to blood pressure or the bad ear infections I had 2 years ago. I wish I could just get in the car and drive without a worry. Also, my hot flashes are funny--they start on my back and then I feel heat behind my ears!

After experiencing just about every symptom listed I'm now dealing with:
Brain fog
Spaciness (mild in comparison to 4 years ago)
Weight gain
Ankle swelling
Sleepy
Anxiety (mild in comparison to years ago)
Very irregular periods (lately from 32-67 days apart)
There are others but they are so mild in comparison to what I've dealt with the last couple of years that I won't bore you by mentioning them. Thank God things are getting better.

well, my list has been long too over the past few years :
two years ago was the worst, now do not have nearly as many or as severe.
Nightsweats (have got none this year and only a few last year, but a lot that year before).
Tummy troubles (diahhrea , gas) (more so 2 years ago, now more normal and not bothersome as it was then and a bit last year).
Racing heart/palpitations/heart feels like it has an extra beat--was really the first symptom I had in my mid 40s and it does resurface at times, but not as much
Irregulalr periods, longest gone with out one is 3 months, some have come at day 40 or 50 but mostly now closer together at between day 24 and 27
Very bad cramps (more so 2 years ago but now do not have this as much at all).
Aches : comes and goes.
Cold flashes as opposed to hot flashes (sometimes not a lot)
Anxiety/anxiety /anxiety!! (this like Hopefully said is much better now than it was but it occurs more than I'd like it to.
So that is my peri list right now and a bit of peri history for me.

RMC is good to see that your symptoms are also declining. I think I need to add panicky feeling to my list for today. As we all know peri symptoms change daily. I've been having "tummy" troubles the last couple of days so I think my ibs is flaring up...which would explain the panicky, blah, sad, lethagic feeling. Many of my ibs symptoms are so similar to peri symptoms...that is why when I first began having severe symptoms I thought it might have been my ibs...but after taking my ibs meds. for awhile with no relief I knew that there had to be other issues. Ugh...now I'm having ibs spasms...time to take some meds. and call it a night. This too will pass :).

Irishsue,
Interesting to see where you have tinnitus. I've had that for 2 years. It started with a bad ear infection in both ears when I had a virus in the form of a cold. It took 3 antibiotics to get rid of the infection.

Wow seems to be the most popular thread on this board, so I thought I would add my list as well.
I'm 53 and have been having a bunch of heath problems happening to me lately.
Hot flashes :o
cold flashes
light headedness/dizziness
foggy brained - hard to think sometimes
forgetting why I've walked to a particular room in my house
saying things backwards (at dinner time telling my husband that it's time to eat breakfast)
used to multi-task quite well, not can't handle more than one thing at a time
get short tempered under tension/stress
gastrointenstinal problems
acid reflux
developed food allergies and lactose intolerance
EXTREMELY dry skin everywhere
anxiety attacks (mostly mild)
fearful
unable to sleep well
body aches/muscle aches/leg cramps
heart palpatations/skipped beats :bouncing:
feeling like I have the flu without a fever
I'm sure I'll think of more after I log off, but that's enough for now !!

Hi all,
I have been extremely fatigued for months no matter how much or how little sleep I get. I also have been having the following symptoms:
Anxiety
Panic attacks
Periods closer together (20-21 days, second day almost hemmorage)
Trouble sleeping
Foggy headed
My husband is convinced I have restless legs syndrome too.
I have been in peri for about 10 years, I will be 47 in a few weeks.
Has anyone found anything to help with fatigue? I can deal with the rest of it.
