How can one justify "adjusting" a 2 wk old baby's neck? This type of treatment over a long extended period of time can cause some serious problems w/adults, much less starting something w/only a 2 wk old infant. Does anyone have any info or area I can go to w/true medical statistics and facts on this?
tks

I'm sorry, but do you mean chiropractic "adjusting"? On a 2 week old baby? Is there a medical reason why this is being done? Otherwise, I've never heard of this being done. And I'd almost have to wonder if it would be considered abuse.

I have heard a few things. One being that SIDS can be caused by the babies first few vertebrae being thrown out of alignment durring delivery and it causing compression on an artery which causes the SIDS. I'm not sure that i believe that one, but there are instances where the babies neck can go through some trauma durring delivery (especially if vacume or forceps are used). There are also chiropractors who believe that if the spine is kept in alignment durring childhood they will have less illnesses (i've even heard it stated that they won't need immunizations if they are kept in proper alignment). I would imagine that with a baby they would do more of a gentile manipulation and not the quick sudden ones that most people think of when they think of someone having their neck adjusted. Chiropractors do have quite a bit of schooling behind them and i don't believe what they did would have been any great risk to the baby, but i also don't think it would have been necessary. [REMOVED]

I watched a news program that showed many people who had strokes or were paralized by haveing their neck alligned. It made me cry to see what these people were going through and they were adults.I just couln't imagine taking that chance with anyone not to mention a baby.
