To all -
Is there anyone on this board dealing with chronic pain who either lives in Charlottesville Virginia or is in the immediate area? I am looking for good PCP docs in that area that understand chronic pain. PM docs do not handle management of pain meds but rather are a guide for PCP's who have to Rx them according to Virginia rules.

I don't understand why you don't want to go to a pain management doctor. Could you explain a little more? I am going to a new PM in Richmond tomorrow. I have been to another PM in Richmond, but he was pre surgery. He used injections as his main therapy. My surgeon was actually quite surprised that he had rx'ed me Duragesic and Oxy for BT. He said that the PM must have really liked me because he wasn't in the practice of rx'ing opiates. That's why he is sending me to this new PM tomorrow. I'm post surgery now. He wants him to develop a long term regimen for me, but it is my understanding that I will always have to get my pain meds from my PM doc. I have a wonderful PCP and surgeon but they both say they have a time limit in which they can prescribe opiates and then you have to go to PM. Even after the PM has established a regimen, my docs wont take over rx'ing the meds for long term. They have both told me that if I am in between PM's they will be glad to rx meds, but ONLY until I find another PM.
I got from your post that you want a PCP that will rx your pain meds? Is this correct? I'm not sure about the laws here in VA. Shoreline, (Dave) however is very knowledgable in this area. Perhaps he will pop in and set me straight. :) I will bow to the master. LOL I think they CAN rx the meds long term, the question is, will they do it. I think with all the restrictions, most of them don't feel comfortable doing it. With all the stuff that happened in Northern VA, I'm surprised any of us can still get a pain rx in VA. Before we know it, we will have regressed to only being allowed aspirin unless we are on our death beds. :eek:
