Hi my son just turned 4 months old. Starting at 3 months he started drooling a lot and and had a persistant little cough but it was dry so I didn't worry. Well, on sunday he started to develop a wet cough as if there was some phlem in there. Now he is crying CONSTANTLY! He isn't sleeping well at night or napping during the day. No fever is present (I think). I am guessing it could be an ear infection but wanted to know what you guys think? He isn't eating as much either.

He could be teething, but he could also have the flu. Take a look at his gums. Look for ridges below the gumline that look like they could be teeth coming in. The top or bottom front are the most likely to be coming in. Also, try giving him a cold wet cloth to chew on, but keep a good eye on him while he's got it. And good luck!

2 of my kids both went through teething that early on. if there drooling thats what it is im sure im not sure about the cough though. it might be related to the teething or it might be a seperate issue.

Hi,
I don't think a cough is part of teething. Is he otherwise healthy?
Also could be allergies...?

I am not sure about his symptoms but it is not that unusual for a 4 month old to be teething by oldest had his first tooth at 2 months. I took him in for his 2 mo well baby appt and asked the dr what to give him to help since I was a new mom at the time and she tried to tell me he was to young to be teething. He already had a tooth so she was wrong! We don't see that dr anymore she said several other things that didn't make sense. Anyway all 4 of my kids had teeth or were getting teeth at 4 months my oldest in fact had all his teeth including his two yr molars by 14 months! So there really is not set time when kids will get there teeth. By the way my friends little boy didn't get any teeth till he was a year old! So it is different for everybody.
Good luck with your little boy and I hope you find out what is bothering him. The ear infection is a possibility though you might want to have it checked just to make sure.
