There are a couple of ways for it to be diagnosed. If you have two fasting blood glucose tests of greater than 110 (should automatically be done with cbc, but doesn't always happen)then diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance is suspected, and further tests are warranted. If you have two fasting bg's of 126 or greater, you are diabetic. Another way to diagnose it is with a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT), which is a test where you fast overnight, then have your blood drawn, drink a highly concentrated glucose drink, and have your blood tested again at one hour intervals for either 3-5 hours. Is there any reason you suspect you may have diabetes? Ruth karaokediva33 06-28-2004, 07:06 AM symptoms Increased thirst Increased urination Dry mouth or skin Tiredness or fatigue Blurred vision More frequent infections Slow healing cuts and sores Unexplained weight loss modert 06-28-2004, 08:46 AM what tests show if u have diabetes? i did a cbc would that show thanks so much people is a fast heartrate a symptom of diabetes? jonathan Jonathan, It is possible can have diabetes with NO symptoms at all. In this case, the only way to know would be with diagnostic testing. A blood glucose test is typically included in a standard blood panel, so your doctor would have some clues even if not looking for it. Even though all the listed symptoms point to diabetes, absence of those symptoms doesn't mean you don't have it. For example, you can be overweight and unable to lose weight, and be diabetic, and in fact, that is quite common for Type 2 diabetes. |
