View Full Version : Nightmares about bulimia?

I have been having a dream pretty frequently that I guess is associated with bulimia. In my dream, my teeth keep falling out. I will notice that one is loose and wiggle it a bit, and to my horror, it falls out. It is in the back of my mouth, so I hope that no one will notice the gap in my mouth. But then, more start falling out of my mouth. In the dream, I usually wake up or sit up in bed (I am always in bed in the dream) and wish that it was all a dream only to discover that it really is true and that all of my teeth have fallen out during the night. I then wake up for real and find out, thankfully that this has not happened. Having my teeth fall out is something that I worry about during the day when I am not sleeping, so it is no wonder that this anxiety creeps into my dreams. My teeth are already discolored and loose. I find myself constantly feeling around in my mouth to see if they are all there, and I am always wiggling them. When I am making myself throw up or brush my teeth or bite down on somthing, I am always afraid that one will pop out. This kind of seems like OCD in a way. I have no medical insurance and cannot afford to see a dentist, so if I do lose my teeth, there is nothing that I can do about it. I also have to keep my mouth closed and try not to smile, so that no one can see how discolored and ugly my teeth are. Does anyone else have similiar nightmares or distressing thoughts during the day about bulimia, particularly about oral problems?

I am sorry this post is so long and rambling. I hope you can make some sense of it!

There are free dental clinics in most cities. Call the Public Health Service/Community Health Service...it's in the phone book.

The dream may be related to your bulimia, however, I know of a few people (who aren't bulimic) who dream about their teeth falling out. I'm not quite sure what it means (we looked up the meaning on line once and found out), but I think it was related to some sort of insecurity, which makes sense in your case. You're insecure about your teeth, therefore you're dreaming about them falling out? I'm not sure. YOu can do dream searches on line to find out the deeper meaning. Good luck. :)

iv got a dream book here and it says

teeth: changes in the pattern and pace of life, such as leaving school and strting work, changing jobs, moving, getting married or divorced e.t.c are symbolised by either lose teeth or teeth falling out.

but its highly likely tht it IS to do with ur bulimia, if u worry about it in the day too.

Hey i was thinkin the same thing as i was looking through threads to read and i saw yours. Im ALWAYS thinkin bout my teeth, and scared they might fall out or they will start to get loose or somethin from my promblem. I too have had a dream about loosing my teeth. I normally am brushing my teeth when i realize im missing a few or when i feel around in my mouth...like i normally do anywayz thats not in a dream. I think that is my worst fear of any symtoms related from being balemic is something wrong with my teeth. But its nice to hear somoene is like me, cause the dreams that i have scare the crap out of me and i tohught it was just weird for me to be dreaming about it.

In my nightmares I'm binging, and I wake up scared to death that I didn't purge everything. Or, I'm binging and I get caught or something.
About the teeth.... mine are starting to become translucent around the edges... not good. I know that my cavities have to do with the lack of enamel..... but losing teeth has to do with the root of the tooth, which is not damaged by the stomach acids. Discoloration can be fixed by the over the counter teeth-whitening strips that they sell. I actually got the dentist to make trays and got the bleanching stuff from him- everytime someone tells me how beautiful my smile is I laugh to myself- if they only knew.......
