I am taking college classes. I've noticed that on only Concerta 18 mg a day, I can study for summer school, but that I have lost my temper :mad: more often. I am usually pretty laid back. :cool: My shrink wants to switch me from the concerta to wellbutrin or to imipramine because of this increased irritability and moodiness.
Concerta is not the first med for ADD that I've tried. Adderall increased my heart rate and blood pressure. Strattera seems to work for about three months and then quit working and when the dose was increased, I got very sleepy during the entire day.
Has anyone had past experience like me where the doctor suggests a switch because an ADD meds makes them moody? I understand that neither wellbutrin or imipramine have FDA indications for ADD but my shrink sez that he's had good results with these meds for ADD. I guess that I'm getting tired :( of meds that work, but either quit working or have big side effects. I would sure feel better if I could hear some other people compare and contrast their experiences on wellbutrin or imipramine.

The first med. my son took for adhd was Wellbutrin. It worked wonderfully for attention and focus on school tasks and chores. I did not even believe that he had adhd before he took Wellbutrin. It did bring out his temper though. I had a son that would never dream of swearing and was very offended when others did. After being on Wellbutrin he skipped all of the small steps in cusing and went straight for the f bomb.
He is now on strattera which is a great med. for him but it does not help with the attention and focus nearly as much. He hasn't tried a stimulant so I have no comparision.
I take Wellbutrin and I really like it. I do not have the angry problems with it that my son did.

Hi, I have been waiting for this to come up~! I have been on concerta for about 3 months with pretty good results. Really really hyper some days and recently I've been noticing some mood changes I am not really liking very much. I am going to discuss them with my doctor next time I go.
Anyway, more specifically, I have noticed the anger thing lately. I am really not sure why this is happening but I hate it. Yesterday was the worst it has been. I FLIPPED so to speak mid morning on all my co-workers and went totally off and got so frustrated and aggravated I didn't know what to do with myself. I leveled off after about and hour or so. It wasn't a very good time for me so hopefully the doc can help balance me out a bit. Thanks for posting..any other side effects noticed????
