Any and all will do this. Weightlifting forces the body to work harder to use the fat as energy to bring up the metabolism while building strength. It is challenging the body. Cardio is great for the heart (lifting will do this to) and helps get you into condition...why it is suggested to include both.

I did not perform any cardio while lifting in a year's worth of college women's strength classes. Nor while working out at home. Lost 75lbs overall this way after starting out at 245. This was a three day split for a hour to 90 minutes. 4 sets of moderately heavy weights for 10-12 reps at first. Had access to both freeweights and machines. At home it is Olympic bench and bb/dbls.

But it is also about your diet too. You need to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day. Up your protein and lower the carbs. Cut the sugar and drink plenty of water.

For overall success, you need to have both exercise AND nutritious diet.

I have had great success with watching my diet. Keeping my calorie intake at 1200/day and rollerblading for a couple of hours a day. I also to 30-45 min of Tae-bo and 30 min strength training a day. Upperbody one day, lower body the next. So far, I've lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks. It's different for everyone, just make sure you choose something that you really enjoy so that it becomes fun (sometimes addictive) instead of seeming like a chore.

As far as I am concerned its summer, any activity done should be outside.. Running..rollerblading and biking...rollerblading and biking are low impact on joints... and so many variations and things you can do, sprints on blades or running, changing gears on bikes..on road, offroad..

then do resistance training

I have a step video that I do at home and I attribute my weight loss to that video. Its convenient coz I can do it at home so theres not commuting to the gym. And its REALLY rigorous - even after over a year of doing it, I still sweat like a pig!!

The step I have is from reebok and comes with a free video - i think my video is reebok classic. I think I paid about50-60 bucks from Modells. And it was worth every penny.

Keep your cats away from the step though, they LOVE to scratch on the rubber surface.

BTW: I lift weights as well and do lunges, squats, situps etc.

Oh and modify your diet too. If you're exercising but eating too much, you may as well not even bother working out - they have to be done together.
