Hi everyone,
I'm starting to work out again, and I know that I am predisposed to having stretch marks when I work out...i.e. i have a few already from 3 years ago when i did it...on the front between my chest and shoulder on my left side...
I am pretty lean...I've never been fat, I don't know why this is happening, but i assume it is because I have really soft, and probably thin skin...
so i signed up at a gym and will be working out..3-4 times a week...i don't want strechmarks to form...i know once they do form...they are hard to get rid of...so how do i prevent them from forming???
thanks.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and will stretch/form new skin to accomodate having to "grow" while muscle is building up or for any reason it has to do so (i.e. pregnancy). It has to be elastic.
However, when you lost the muscle or lost the weight...it will shrink back but leave the stretchmarks for awhile until absorbed.

There is really no way to prevent new marks if you plan weight loss or gain however there are ways to lighten them up. Strivectin is a great product and there are also laser treatments available too. You are correct in assuming your skin quality contributes. I was a fat child and lost weight in my teens and have been thin except in my early twenties when I had my son. I gained 60 pounds very quickly due to Toxemia and I lost it very quickly mostly because it was fluid and believe it or not...no stretch marks. I have amazing skin and muscle tone (very blessed)..however as I get older and thinner I see a few marks but I use Strivectin and it took out the color and reduced the inflamation. I heard cocoa butter heps too.

You have a zinc deficiency. That is the only reason for getting stretch marks without any change in weight.
There is an easy way to tell if you are deficient in zinc. You get liquid zinc which is sold by the name Zinc Status (more than one company makes this product).
The directions are to swallow after 10 seconds 2 teaspoons and if you don't taste anything you are deficient. Zinc plays a role in taste and smell sensation.
If you are zinc deficient then a regular capsule or tablet zinc supplement would probably be easier and more economical to take. The Zinc Status will run about $8 or $10 for about 4 oz. of liquid zinc.
Good luck.

Ok, I'll try the zinc thing and also that der...medication thing...and see...
It is so strange i've weight almost equal for the past 5 years...lowest 148, highest 155...with the heigh comming when i was working out, but i'me getting strech marks..this sucks :-)...i remember in high school, i was on the swim team, and then i didn't get any stretch marks, but now i do, so maybe it's an age thing as well. but then again, i'm only 22, why the heck is my aging setting in already.
thanks anyhow, i'll try to not let it get to me too much.
