Does anyone else have a child on Lamictal? Jake (7yrs) is starting his 6th week and up to only 45mg twice a day. They went super-slow to avoid rash. Unfortunately, he has a rash. We took him in to his new Neuro (1st Visit) on Wednesday and he didn't think it was the right rash and said to continue. He also mentioned that he wouldn't have started him on Lamictal in the first place. It was the Neuro from the ER that first Prescribed. He wanted us to continue because we have come this far and even though he has a rash, moodyness, joint pain, hyperactivity, and insomnia, he didn't think that it was realted. Now to the point--- Tonight he said his back gums were stinging. When I looked in throat, he has blisters on the back of his tongue and by his tonsils.
Has anyone had a rash on Lamictal that wasn't hives, just tiny bumps all over his torso? And has anyone had blisters in the throat? This is really starting to scare me.

Wendy,
CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!
You can read about this rash under Steven-Johnson's Syndrome on the search engines.
Our daughter (16 yrs.) takes Lamictal and has done well with it, but some of the first areas of rash are in the moist areas of the body, including the mouth, eye area etc. I only know this because of research, I am not in the medical field.
Please read this info as soon as possible. Please let us know of the results.

Hello!
Yes, I agree with vicki and i really really hope that you have contacted your doctor as well! It kinda sounds like a reaction to the medication. I actually take lamictal as well. I've been taking it for 3 years now, and have experienced insomnia like your son has as well (only mine has been a 3 year ordeal, i never knew it was a side effect!!!!!!!)
Anyway, I wasn't able to take my meds for about 3 days, because i was away from home and left them at home..(SILLY ME!). so what do you know i had a seizure! Then i took my regular dose and got a strange rash around my eyes and mostly on my face....After 2 days it disappeared, but i couldn't help but wonder if it had something to do with the medication, especially since it drains quite quickly from your body. Anyhow i am find now, besides the insomnia that lamictal has on me.
I really hope that jake is alright! I took tegretol when I was 15 years old, and was extremely exhausted, and had a TERRIBLE RASH all over my body! it was incredible. I made connection and wasn't living at home for the entire summer. I thought it was heat rash, but it only got worse and I experienced mouth sores/throat sores as well. finally the connection was made and i went off tegretol. Finally lamictal has worked to control the seizures.
I hope that Jake and your family have discovered if the lamictal has anything to do with his symptoms. I WISH WISH WISH Jake well!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)

I have to agree about checking with the doctor. I take 300mg. of Lamictal per day and I've been warned to watch out for rashes. So far there have been none, but the possibility is there.
