Have any of you ever used creams that reduce or eliminate stretch marks? My 13 year old daughter is 5 foot 6 inches tall--weighs 125 pounds and is not overweight. She has those ugly stretch marks (purple looking) around her breasts and near her buttocks and she is so self-conscious about them and will not wear bikinis at all. Her bathing suit has to cover all of her breasts and she wears the bottoms that look like a skirt. Is there anything that I can get that will actually makes these lighter, less noticeable?? I have thought about getting the mederma cream, but its so expensive, and would hate to buy it and learn that is doesnt work at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ladybug, the joys of being a girl. LOL
I have stretch marks on my buttock area too, so I always went for the boy short bathing suits. For a while, I wasn't into showing my stomach, but once I got more acquainted with my body, I learned to appreciate my stomach...it was the best looking body part that I had! So I ended up wearing two piece bathing suits with the boy shorts and a top piece that, not so much covered, but supported my not-in-the-best-shape-for-a-teen breasts. And I looked HOT! LOL Tell your daughter that even though she always sees these other women and girls out there wearing bikinis, she is NOT the only one with stretch marks on those delicate places....many of my friends had them there, and elsewhere too. Tell her that she should try not to dwell on the parts that are the worst, but embrace and flaunt the ones that look the best...like her stomach, back, and legs. Oh yeah, I wasn't the foot person either. LOL

As for creams, I've been using cocoa butter on and off, and it hasn't really gotten rid of the stretch marks, but they look better than they did...and better than some of the ones that I've seen women sporting! I bought the Mederma cream...for my stomach, but I haven't started using it yet...yeah, it's expensive, but it just may be worth it. One thing for me, even though I started to appreciate my stretch marks, the ones that I have on my stomach now, after being pregnant, they make my butt look a WHOLE lot better. LOL But there are cheap knock-offs of Mederma and other creams that may help just the same.

I wish her the best, just remind her that she is beautiful anyhow! ;)

Have either of you seen any postive results after using mederma on your stretch marks?

I'm using the mederma now. All I can say is that so far it has reduced the brightness of the stretch marks and some of them seem smaller (although I didn't make records, so I'm not sure). It is expensive, even more expensive when you have a lot of them. I'm going to keep going. It says on the label that it takes quite some time to reduce scars, so it may be some time before i can report if it worked.

I had stretch marks on my breasts at about 27 weeks of pregnancy and i then started using "palmers cocoa butter cream" it's made for marks on the body ( even scars) and can even be used for an after sun lotion to tone your skin to reduce rinkles later in life. I am 39 weeks p/g right now and i have been using a couple times a week since i got my stretch marks and they are hardly visible now. I highly reccomend it for your daughter, and the best part it that it shouldn't cost you over $5!

I had stretch marks at that age. They have virtually disapeared now due to VITAMIN E!!!!! Pure vitamin E oil. You can buy it in a jar. It's very oily and thick but it works. If you cannot find the oil, You can buy Vitamin E capsules and just pop them with a pin and use that.

I would definetely try the cocoa butter first, since she is young it has a better chance of repairing her skin. If that doesnt work for her and she really wants to get rid of them, then you can try mederma, but it can get pretty costly since it takes some time to work... good luck to her!

I developed stretch marks during my pregnancy with my son. Ended up with them on the stomach, breasts and a few on the inside of my thighs. I was underweight before becoming pregnant and gained almost 50 pounds so that didn't help. My doctor told me that creams would do no good because the tendency to have stretch marks was heriditary and regardless of what you did that no significant improvement would be noticed. Save your money.
