I went to my oral surgeon last Monday and was ready to request that I be put me to sleep permanently. I have been suffering since March 8th. My oral surgeon fitted me with a new splint(NTI) on May 13th and for a week or so I felt like I was getting better. Then all of the sudden it starting getting worse again. So last Monday I went in and begged for anything that he could do to help. After examining me he said it looked like I had a cracked tooth. To make a long story short, I went to an endodonist immediately and by 10:00 the next morning the tooth was out. It had to be removed because the only other option was a two hour root canal and the oral surgeon said it would only cause more damage. After waking up from the extraction, I felt immediate relief. He told me that while he was in there he gave me a steroid injection as well. I don't know if the tooth was causing all the pain or if the "gas/anesthesia(spelling?)" just relaxed the muscle or if the steroid injection works miracles, but I have been competely pain free for a week! :bouncing: I went to New Orleans on vacation the day after the tooth was removed. On the train ride home I got a little tense because the ride was very rough and I was afraid we were going to derail! I started to feel my temple tighten and the familar pain started to return. But after sleeping through the night I woke up and have been fine since. I'm praying very hard that my flare up is over. You'll be hearing from me again if it's not! My prayers are with each and everyone of you.

Yes, my symptoms started after having a cavity filled in the tooth that was found to be cracked. I wasn't having any symptoms before the dental procedure was performed. They found the cavity on an xray during a cleaning. My teeth are very sensitive and my dentist told me to just take ibuprofen until the sensitivity went away. I waited 8 weeks before going to an oral surgeon. He fitted me with an NTI and it didn't change any of my problems. I think the removal of the tooth was 90% of the cure. I think the fact that they knocked me out relaxed that TMJ muscle and gave me relief from the constant tightness in the temple/jaw. I also think the steroid injection helped to calm down the inflamed area as well. I'll keep you posted on my recovery. Thanks for being concerned!
