I have the worst hair in the whole world. it used to be perfect, straight, thick, shiny and healthy, that was until i decided to have a perm, it totally wrecked my hair, i then decided i wud have it put back straight so i did, ever since then, everytime i washed my hair and let it dry naturally it wud dry frizzy, split and gross looking.
i then stupidly started having it bleached blond at a salon and carried on for about 3 years.
I was also put on accutane for acne and that has a side effect of makin your hair thin and fall out which it did and was made worse by the continuous bleaching.
anyway i decided i wud let my own natural colour come through (dark brown) it is a few inches grown out now.
but it is goin to take forever to grow so have decided to have all my old blond hair cut off, will make me have real short boy like hair.
so am goin to get extensions.
anyone here ever had extensions? how long they last?
am goin to see some women tommorrow who hopefully wil be able to do them after i get back from my holiday
so any experience with them? help please!!

I used to have the hair extensions that get braided into your hair. They braid 3 tracks, and sew the hair onto the tracks. The tracks last about 3 weeks, and then you have to go in and get the tightened. If you are good to the hair, i.e., not over blowdry or use hot curling irons, the hair lasts a long time.
Hope this helps.

I went today to talk to a lady that does this, and my hair is too short to braid in, and its too oily for the glue in
she said that if I usually wash my hair everyday the glue would not last... anyone know anymore about this?

I just got hair extensions again, and am using the glue method. I wash my hair everyday and don't have any problems. You just can't use a shampoo that has a lot of oils. And if you use conditioner, you just can't get it on the glue at the scalp.
I would get another opinion. Mine stay in just fine. You do however need to use a clarifying shampoo before you glue them in to get rid of all the oils, and don't put any conditioner on the day you glue them in.
I love mine, and don't have any problems.

Do you normally have oily hair and that is why you wash daily???
Do you use human hair?
Im caucasion and she said that my hair just wont hold them.... booohooo I want them bad and she was a friend of a friend and was going to give me a great deal....
can I ask how often you have to have them maintained?
how much is it?

I wouldn't classify my hair as oily, but if I don't wash it everyday, it does feel dirty. The hair I have is I believe synthetic. I'm caucasion too, with blonde hair.
For me, the cost was around $135, but the woman who does my hair is also a good friend, so I don't know if she would have charged more for someone else.
I have to get them taken out and re-glued about every 3-4 weeks.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask! :)

It doesn't "fall out", but the tracks grow out with your hair. That's why you have to get them re-glued.
The very first time I ever got extensions, I was in FL. I was in Sarasota, and went to a place called Lipstix. It was $300 and she used a glue gun to attached individual pieces. It worked good, but when I came back to IA and my hair grew out, my own hair matted and tangled, so it had to be cut. That is why I get the tracks now.
I would get another opinion, especially since it sounds like you might have kinda the same hair I have. May I ask, how long is your own hair? Mine is shoulder length.

Butting in ;)
I have extremely thin and fine hair and have been thinking about extensions myself.
I've looked in the phone book under hair stylists, hair extentions, salons, you name it and can't see where I could get them done. Just incase I'm an idiot, lol, can you tell me how I can go about finding someone that does hair extensions in my area? I feel a bit ashamed calling salon after salon looking for them.
Also... what are all the different types of extensions one could get (braid, track, glue) and the prices of them. I suppose your opinion of each would be great also.
Oh how nice thick looking hair would be!
Thanks in advance!

Supertoe,
You will just have to call around...I think that is the only way to find out. As for the different types, the two I have used is brading the hair on a track, and bonding the extensions to your hair/scalp. The prices can vary, on how nice of quality the hair is, and the time it takes the person to put them in. Mine is about $100 each time, which is about every 3-4 weeks.
